Hi there,
Can anyone tell me where to purchase rust free body parts,or replacement panels? I have a real cute little car, but here in Ny. the bodies rust terribly.I'd love to drive it this summer with the top down, any help would be appreciated.
thanks jdloverny

Well, if the body is that badly rusted, I would definately take a look at the underbody. Specifically, the "apron". It's the piece of metal behind the wheel, that the tie-rod goes to, and the lower control arm bolts to. I would jack the car up, take the wheel off, and examine those very carefully. If there are rust holes, or severe rust on the welded seams, the car is pretty much scrap. If the rust is bad, any big bump you hit could break that piece of metal in half, and you'll completely lose control of the car. Similar to a ball joint failure. The only replaceable panels on the car are the doors, hood, and fenders. The rest require welding and cutting. Fenders can be picked up easy from any parts house locally. I would ask a body shop to see if they can pick one up for ya. Or you can google it. Metro convertibles also have unique doors, and passenger side fender. The rest are interchangable with a regular 2 door metro.
