Engine Swap

I was wondering how much work it would be to swap a 6.2L Diesel out of a 1982 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup and put in a 350, 454 because I think the transmission will bolt right up.....but I've been told that the 6.2 was made by Oldsmobile and only a Oldsmobile will bolt right up to it. Anyone have any ideas? please help

i was under the impression that all the gm deisels were built by isuzu but i don't know about an 82. anyway, find out if your tranny ever came with a 350 (or 454) bolted toit and then you will have your answer (i know this is probably of no help, but i tried :) )

The 6.2L (as well as the 6.5L) diesel and turbodiesel engines from GM were derived, I believe, from Detroit Diesel designs. They don't have anything in common with Oldsmobile engines.

The original light-duty diesel V8s that were used in GM pickups were "dieselized" versions of Oldsmobile's 350. That engine was replaced by the 6.2L.

Isuzu and GM co-developed the current 6.6L Duramax V8 turbodiesel engine found in Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

These three series of engines (5.7, 6.2/6.5, and 6.6) have no major parts in common.
