well a fellow classmate with a turbo charged SC300 5 speed wanted to race me. i kinda wanted to race him too in the back of my mind, but i never bought it out. well i was driving home from class and i got a phone call for a arrangement for a race. i gladly accepted and i went home to change my oil since it was time for me to change it anyways for reliablilites sake.

so we meet at some odd place and deserted place. the cars setup is a SC300 with a 5 speed tranny with all the bolt ons and a 50-1 turbo running 10 psi. he should be making around 300whp also.

so i figured with me being alot lighter i had to get him off the line and try to hold him off on the top end since we should be similar once we both got moving.

well we both got flagged down and i got the jump on him while he was spinning his tires. i was ahead for the first two gears until all of the sudden i heard his wastegate being very very loud and heres what i was thinking

me: yeah i'm getting him

me: what da hell ( he shot past me in third gear by 2 cars lead )

me: noooooooooooo thats is a freaking strong ass third gear!!!

me: what da he stopped pulling, but i'm not gaining on him either

so in the end after that monsterous third gear pull he ended up being around 2 cars ahead of me till the end which is around 110mph.

what got me confused was how da hell did he pull that hard in 3rd but we both ended up with the same top end in 4th. i guess he has more area under the power band but we make the same peak hp and he has better gearing in 3rd.

anyways that was one of hte best races i've had in a long and everyone in the school saw it ( it was in some desserted place at night ) and it was definitly a close race.

dang sounds fun...nice death, even deaths can be fun if its a close race. Some of the funnest races i've been in have been me getting beat by a car or less. That's so awsome when the races are like that.

every year they have a thread that gets stickyed and everyone votes for all these categories and like a month later, it gets tallied and they have a new dedicated thread on it. the person who is behind all this is underground_killer. its actually quit fun and makes us work harder for somethings.

edit: yeah definitly its the close races where the results goes back and forth is the most exciting. and yeah ric(er) the 2jz definitly is a impressive engine. my friend's supra TT just dynoed today at 360whp with almost nothing done to it.

Kinda and kinda not. It's fair in my eyes, voting is done properly through Underground_Killah, and I know he's a fair guy and seperates the voting thoroughly and properly...

It's really not to often we get a race story from ol' Tat around here. I can't even remember the last race story you posted since I've been here...jeez. Well, I'm curious to know what is up with the SC300 as well. Sound incredible...hmmm, just imagine if his car got to hook up rather than spinning the tires. Wonder what would have happened then?

Good race buddy. You should give us more stories these days...what with my ass just mobbin' around in my little pick-up, I can't get any races. Been ages since I've actually, actually raced anyone...But soon I will. Nice death buddy.

i just realized that his car has to be making more then 300whp. the reason for this is because my friend's supra made 304whp on 10 psi ( stock boost ) and he only has a front mount intercooler, a intake, and a B.S. axle back exhuast with both stock cats still on.

that SC300 has a bigger turbo, higher compression engine, and a full turbo back exhuast. i'm guessing he should be in the 320whp range or more.

i really gotta convince him to go the dyno to see whats up. but yeah i barely race becasue around where i live, its not safe to race becasue the roads suck and there are waaay too many cops, i had to drive 30 miles away from home just to do this one race. and all the other short races i've had was kinda bs races cause we got really raced like the time with the porsche 911 and the LS2 powered GTO. i started but they didn't follow then the gap in the traffic closed up.

yea that was a cool race but you didnt lose by much, that sc300 sounded strong as hell... maybe he has more mods then he says? eh.. ither wat it was a fun race , the race between ben and john was pretty cool too... well beter luck next time at least your rep for the ka-t.

hah yeah i first though you were talkin about GT4.

but i talked to the guy some more and he definitly was underplaying his car, he told me today that he pulled on a E46 M3 pretty good on the highway. that is with a fat 3600+ car so hes definitly making a good amount more hp then he says hes making.

i got played!! and since there was side bets, my 240 friends lost and had to buy steak lunch for the guys who bet on the SC.

maybe he had a small shot of nitrous? or maybe a switch to up the boost manually? or maybe his 1-3 gears are really strong , but traction isn't feasible through 1-2 and then he falls flat in 4th...

i'm thinking he needs better tires in the rear so he can get off the line better...

i hear dayton ZR's are awesome @ 14lbs of pressure and a 3500 stall on a 5.0...

if i had drag radials and a lsd, i would get a much better jump on him and hold off his 3rd gear pull then we both level out and we break even or with me coming out on top by a fender:wink:

hmmmm....well, i was just wondering if tat is considering a new car, i believe he's had the 240 for 4 yrs now? not necessarily a faster car, but a new car once in a while is nice ya know? ;)

oh yeah, and something is just not right........he got almost 1000 lbs on you!! well....700-800 lbs a lil closer, but.....somethings just not right.....thats quite a bit of power to weight ratio and you do have impressive dyno numbers......somethings not right......

today to see if my car lost any power, i did a compression test on my car and it had perfect compression so my engine is in tip top condition. so his car was definitly making more power then me. so weight advantage is mostly effective for off the line, which i did get, but once we got moving, his hp just took over for that 1 gear. i seriously think they got some crazy gearing for 3rd.

also i wasn't offended by ric(er)'s post, i would want a new car mostly a 350Z until i got a ride in a track model this weekend and damn that car felt slow... its like it wasn't even moving.

also i've done waay to much mods to my car to just give it up. i got new wheels for me car but i don't have pics of it up. they're 17x10's in the back and 17x9's up front. let me tell you, the car looks alot more aggressive now.

but besides the 350Z nothing thats out right now interests me. my other choice would be a supra TT but thats waaay too much money. also i know for a fact that a 500whp 240sx will be as fast as a supra TT with 700whp. i've seen trap speeds for both and they trap similar.

my car is basically just a built engine away from 450whp which is a low 11 second car with suspension mods. so i'm gonna see what happens when i graduate and start my career.. then i can have all the money i can play with. when hit my 450whp mark maybe i'll get bored and move on the bigger things.

Aren't a new higher end 350Z's(grand touring and track) and a decently used Supra TT basically the same price, around the 35K price range +/- 5K. I know a dealership had someone trade in a good TT for a STI and wanted around 28K for it, had like 80K miles on it and a clean carfax.

well if i was goin to get a Z all i could afford was to buy a used 03 base or enthusiest model. they sell for around 20K, and i would have to sell my car and use that money as a down payment then take out a small bank loan.

but after gettin a ride in the track model Z ( a friend of a co worker of mine ), i changed my mind, its too much of a downgrade in speed, and most supras cost around 30K and i would not be able to take out a bank loan for that much money. i want to get something from a dealer rather then private seller.

Where did you drive the 350Z? I took my friend's through a road course up in Portland and it was a blast. If you just drove it around town then you obviously won't be too impressed.

What I really love about that car is the interior. The plastics are nothing to write home about, but I fell in love with the feel of the car. The shifter was excellent and in a good location. Seating position could have been a little bit sportier, but it felt very positive.

If you are just looking for a straight-line monster and don't plan on going FI, then a 350Z probably isn't for you. The problem with that VQ motor is that it is relatively maxed out from the factory. It really doesn't respond to anything other than boost.

i would've sworn that it didn't feel that slow the last time i got a ride and drove one. then again that was 2 years ago when i was only making 230whp. so of course it wouldn't feel too bad. but if i was to get a Z, i would use it as a daily driver and keep my car as a weekend warrior ( of course thats after i graduate and get a good paying job ) but its just a thought. but for now i'm definitly keeping the 240 and i have no plans on selling it at all.

I personally think a Z would make a pretty good daily driver if you aren't looking for something with good fuel economy. It is fast enough to bring a smile to your face when you open it up, and the interior really makes the car more fun IMO.

And the reason it probably doesn't feel as fast as it really is is because of the torque curve, which is relatively flat. You will feel your peak torque way more than your peak HP....

Yeah, the 97-98 front end def. looks more aggressive than the 95-96, love the tailights too, sexy car.

also yeah the advans looks very very nice in person, my friend has them on his S14. and yes technically the S13-S14 and S15 are similar chassis wise, but the S14 and S15 is 6 inches wider then the S13 and has different handling characteristics. the suspension bits are more beefier and longer on the S14 and S15 as compared to the S13.

That Sc definately only ran 10 psi. I was the one that tuned the car for 10 psi on 87 octane. I'm sure he felt the boost when he threw in some 93 octane but he was definately not cheating. Only thing he did was grab some food, take a nap and wait for a easy kill.

Yeah, i'd say it was the area under the curve as well. I believe that your car doesn't have an extremely flat power curve. After reviewing NissanFanatics curve I noticed how your cars tend to make power up top primarily.

Anyways, good loss. I'm still not so certain of the gearing on your cars. What does 3rd gear top out at?

Get some 1/4 mile times already.

my 3rd tops out at 90mph. my never shift at redline though because i can feel the power drop off. i'm gonna dump my wastegate out into the atmosphere hopefully i can pick up 10whp or alittle more by doing this.
