96 neon 5 speed clutch question

ok .... I just bought a neon today ... I'm sure I got a good deal but the the car jerks when driving in the following ways

Gear 1 never
Gears 2-5 when i drive low RPM's

I was thinking the jerking would be caused by the engine ... but if that were so ... it would be happening in gear 1 ... which it's not ... my best guess would be the clutch is slipping.

I need advice on where the clutch is ... and can this problem be fixed using some clutch lubercant if the car takes it ... or what ... i'm new with fixing cars ... any advise will be helpful.

My best advice would be to go out and get some type of manual, like the Haynes or Chiltons. Best one would be the Factory Service Manual.

Now as far as your problem goes, is the CEL on? Have you checked your bushings?

my 96 does that sometimes in the same gears. my tranny mechanic because thats the only thing i dont touch says that that happens on my car unless i get a very tight spring. other than that there isnt anything else i have found for that. if you do though let me know ok.

Hey "96neon" did your tranny guy say anything about that problem relating to the clutch? Also when your car jerks ... is there also a knocking noise that comes from the front undercarriage?

nope no knock from the engine just some bouncing and yes its involved with the clutch.
