Do you know if a left hand drive RS TURBO will easily be transferred to an mk4 escort cabriolet right hand drive?

I'm presuming when you mean RS Turbo you are referring to the RS Cosworth.
The RS Escort Cosworth engine is very similar to the one in the Merkur XRTi (which was available in the US). Unfortunately, the RS Cosworth was based on the Merkur platform (the European Sierra) which was predominantly rear-wheel drive - even though it looks like an European Escort Mark IV.
This meant that the RS Cosworth engine was installed longitudinally (north south) as opposed tranversely (east west ie across the car) as in the Mk 4 Escort.

synybite, looks like you're on the wrong site! looks like you're from england mate! a US based site probably won't get you the help you're after as the US escort is very different. the basic set up in the euro escorts is left hand drive. you should have no problem in converting it to your right hand drive cabrio as all you'll need is the engine/box suspension etc, but you'll need to use a right hand drive RS turbo loom. obviously the dash won't fit but you can find dashs at just about any scrap yard as the basic model escorts are no different to the turbo models, i assume you're talking about mk 4 escorts? try www.rsoc.co.uk or www.xroc.co.uk and try the forums.
by left hand drive i take it you've bought it from abroad where they are about two thirds cheaper than a rhd in the uk! i'll be doing that soon (hopefully) but get a seirra sapphire cosworth 4x4!!:D

i think everyone does!! i think ford (uk and europe) hit the right nail by choosing RECARO to make the seats for the series 1 and 2 rs turbo, the sierra rs cosworth, the escort rs cosworth, ford fiesta rs turbo, ford fiesta rs1800 and the escort rs2000's.
the ones in mine are series 2 rs turbo and sell for (secondhand) from as low as £100 to £200 (really good condition) ((about $60 to $130 for you in US)) they are very very very comfortable and very cool! a lot of owners with non ford cars buy them and modify the runners to fit in their own cars, retrims are dead easy as everything is in peices. i've seen full leather retrims in every colour and they are awesome.
the best recaros are from the seirra sapphire rs cosworth 4x4 (BLACK LEATHER!!):D
didn't ford US put recaros in fords over there?

I've been found out. Yes I am in the UK and the question posed by this post is by the by. I just wanted to talk to people who had the same interest as me.
I do like the car by the way. I have recaro's in my car 90 spec. Cost £100 with a few other bits. Not excellent condition but I can live with it. :D
Can't afford the insurance on an RS Turbo just yet anyway so the mod will just have to wait.

US Ford...Recaros...US Ford...Recaros...no chance in hell :D
Ford over here tends to prefer armchairs :(, at least they used to. The new seats are 500 times better, but still no Recaros

sybynite, no worries mate. if you try the sites i mentioned (i can also be found there) AF is predonimently US based, but i like this site as i'm very very much into the old US muscle cars and hot rods. at some point in my life i want a prostreet '69 dodge charger RT, a modern styled '69 chevy camero Z28, a '70 chevy camero Z28 and a '88 chevy camero Z28, as well as a black '82 chevy corvette and a sheby mustang GT500. hopefully all at the same time but i can dream. i hope to own a couple pretty soon though!
turbo conversions are pretty simple to do as long as you have everysingle bit you need, fuel pump/filter, injection, intercooler, loom, ecu's, etc. try XROC and post a thread calling all XROC members with turbo conversions. left hand drive is not a problem as all escorts are based on LHD in the first place. just use a RHD loom.
you going to ford fair anychance?
