hey all... anyone here done the new datsun 510 tuner from revell???

i picked up one this weekend, and it is a pretty basic kit... but there is a lot of room for improvement. the kit pieces are pretty low quality, but most revell are , lots of flashing on the edges of the pieces, and the part trees are very disorganized... nothing like the tamiya kits!!!

so, ive got some plans to put in a big 427 from an old 67 corvette model i had from revell, from when i was younger. i ripped out the engine and drivetrain and then blew up the rest of the car on the 4th of july. it was a really crappy modeling job, so i didnt care.

so, anyone else got any plans for this kit???

this is my first scratch built project... and i think im jumping in head first.
i hope it all works out, cuz in my head it is looking pretty good.

after working on it for a bit today, all i have to say is D A M N!!! that 427 engine is huge!!! im reworking the entire firewall and the center of the floor pan, al the way back to the middle of the car!

having a blast doing it though

dont you know that this kit is a reissue of an old old monogram kit (I think my father have one)same as the z car
thats the reason why its not the best revell kit check out for the new civic coupé thats gonna be a greater kit :p

i got the kit today but it needs bigger wheels a lil bit lower to the ground and a wing the decals are sweet but im using the contempo kind.

what about a mesh grill?

you should be glad this kit was reissued they went for 50 to 80 bucks at swap meets

How about an old 6-cylinder from the first Skyline GT-R from Tamiya? The model could be built with the hood closed and therefore not be wasted. Just a thought. Or even the engine from AMT's 280zx that will be re-released this year?

well so far i have the floor pan and transmission hump rebuilt using styrene sheets.... it looks too "choppy", for lack of a better term, and i've got to smooth it out with some putty and a bunch of filing/sanding.

the engine seems to sit in the engine bay just barely. the firewall is going to have to be drastically cut to accomodate the absolutley huge bell housing on the trans. i also swapped out the original radiator from the front panel of the engine bay, with the larger vette radiator and fan shroud. all seems to be fitting quite nicely and i think i will be able to close the hood. i might add a scoop just for kicks.

the rear end is going to be interesting since i have to figure out how to work the vette parts into the strange mono-leaf spring rear end of the 510...

this scratch building stuff is damn fun, but it takes me a long time to get the pieces just right...

Would an RB20 engine from a Nissan Cefiro fit into the engine compartment of the 510? I just bought one and was curious. At least they upgraded the tires from the original release. There were 2 pieces for each tire. If not I'm gonna shove an RB26 from an R-32 under the hood!

Being a datsun fanatic I need to see some pictures.....

I have tons of 240z models and a couple of 510 ones - it looks like the old Revell/Monogram Brock Buster model which go for big pennies.

Cheers

some progress pics... slow progress pics

im still trying to locate some epoxy putty. the hobby shop near my house is pretty small, so i gotta check the bigger store farther away.

then i will be able to smooth all the straight edges on the transmisson hump. i also picked up some needle files, so the smoothing should go pretty well...

now for the pics...
