Ok, so I was just wasting some time today and decided to look for cams. I found a couple used sets of 272's, one set for $250. Is that a fair price? Would you guys buy used cams? I dont have much of a problem with it, but then again I am asking for your opinions. What do you guys think?

i would if they were in good shape, i dont have a ton of money to buy parts so if i can find it real nice for cheap i take the deal and be happy

As long as there is no scarring or excessive wearing on them then I would say go for it. HKS 272's go for like 600 a set. FP Comp2 272's go for about 400 a set. Of course those are brand new ones prices... 250 sounds like a really good deal if they are ok. How many miles are on them?

problem is that the cam lobes wear mate to the rocker arms and if you put the cam with a different rocker arm you can run into trouble down the road

The $250 set doesnt have any pictures or mileage, but the nonpriced set has like 3000 miles on them. I dont think that with 3000 miles they could have worn to the rocker arms much. Tuners is down AGAIN at the moment so I will try back in a couple hours. Any more comments/suggestions?

I have yet to see this happen on a DSM. The cams and the roller rockers dont cause much friction seeing the rockers have rollers compaired to other cars that just have rods or solid rockers which cause a lot more wear on the cams.

$250 is a hell of a steal on 272s whether they have 3k or 15k miles. I would worry about it at all. Just make sure the cams are in good shape where they ride on the journals in the head. Some tend to get scared up if there was any particles in the oil. Good luck

Sounds good guys, I will get pictures from them as soon as I can and if they look decent I will for sure hit them up.

I sold my 272s with high mileage (but VERY low wear on the journals) for 450, so 250 is certainly a steal if they are in usuable shape. Like Eklips said, there won't be any appreciable wear on the lobes, it's just the "bearing" surface you have to worry about. There will always be visible wear, you just don't want any deep scoring. The head and caps are aluminum, which is soft, so they tend to take more of the beating than the cams anyway.
