Hi, I have slight problem I have a 94 cadillac deville concours with a 4.6 The problem that i am having is it keeps running hot. I have put a new thermostat, water pump, radiator and cap,and both fans come on but it keeps running hot I am finding it hard to believe that it could be the heads or head gasket because there is no water in the oil and when I crank the car it does smoke at all. Does any one have any ideas Thankx.

What do you define as running hot? What temperature is the engine running at? The 4.6l Northstar routinely runs up to 240 degrees.

Two things..
First, what do you call hot?
Second, AFAIK the '94 Devilles were 4.9s not 4.6 Northstars.

I say running hot because the water is pumping back through the overflow line then the check coolant comes across on the dash any ideas why it is backing up through the overflow I lose about 2 gallons of coolant

I've never heard of anything like that. You may have a leak somewhere causing problems, the 4.6 uses a sealed coolant system and a leak would cause the water to begin boiling, causing all sorts of problems.

Also, the '94 DeVille could be had with either the 4.9 or the 4.6.

I'd suggest flushing the coolant. There could be some sort of blockage in the system somewhere causing the coolant to back up in the system.

There is a purge line that runs from the surge tank down to another fitting near the water pump and below the throttle body. Verify that it is not clogged.
