water spots

How do I get rid of water spots on my hood and roof. I tried waxing them but when I finished, I still had water spots. I don't have an electric buffer. I would probably screw up the finish if I used a buffer.:disappoin

Well now that you have a coat of wax overtop the water spots, you need to remove the wax. There is a product called Gon (that is the correct spelling) that you can get at auto body supply stores, just follow the directions. Once the wax is all removed, most likely the water spots will be gone as well cause they were most likely ontop of an existing coat of wax. Now don't panic if the surface ends up looking like crap covered in minor scratches and swirl marks (you did after all remove all the wax that was filling them in) cause that is the next step, use a good quality swirl and haze remover , i use swirl and haze remover made by the wax shoppe, then either use the liquid glaze made by the same company or another quality wax to finish it off.

I personally use a clay bar first, then put a coat or two of polish, and then depending a coat of carnuba wax or synthetic paint sealent. clay bar will take off all the existing wax, water spots, oxidation, fallout and other things. It does take a while to do, but the results are worth it. Good luck.

I use a PPG product called Acryli-Clean #DX330 to remove the wax (probably similar to Gon). The Acryli-Clean works well for removing the wax "oops" stuff on plastic trim pieces too.

Then I do the clay bar with varying degrees of agressiveness depending on the surface imperfections.

Follow up with swirl and haze product, then a sealer (probably could skip this step), then multiple coats of yellow carnuba wax. These are all Meguiar's Professional Line products. I only do this a couple of times a year, because I have had pretty good luck with using one of the Meguiar's Consumer Line products called "NXT Generation Spray Wax" to keep the base coats of carnuba fresh.

I have a large tank of reverse osmosis water in the garage with a dedicated pump and hose for rinse down after washing to keep the water spots at bay. My household water is softened first, and then I have an RO unit that keeps the tank full. Saves me lots of time and effort on wash day.

Take all of the above with the caveat that I've been accused of being obsessive/compulsive...but it works for me!
