:banghead: I have a 95 escort GT 2dr hatchback, and im trying to install a subwoofer in the trunk of the car. I need to find the hole in the firewall to run power from the battery to the amp which will be located in the trunk.any ideas on where the hole is or if need be where to drill to get a hole, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest going in the engine bay and drilling basically right behind the battery all the way to the driver's side and up a little ways from there, that'll bring ya out basically to the left of the clutch pedal

Not sure if the '95 gt is anything like the '94 lx, but...
in my '94 there's a bunch of wires running through the firewall in a rubber grommet underneath the dash on the passenger side (almost straight back in from the right side of the center console)

Otherwise, just look for a bunch of wires tied together under the dash. Chances are they're going through the firewall somewhere.

i was planning on doing some wiring too and did a little poking around. on mine there seem to be two non-destructive options. first, there are already wires running through teh firewall. you might have to do some messing around to push your new wires throguh teh gaskets/grommets, but it looked like it would work as long as they didnt have pre-installed plugs, etc.

second, i found at least one spot where it looked like there was a pre-existing, but empty, hole in teh firewall that was sealed off with a piece of rubber. perhaps a hole for an option that my economy model doesnt have? anyways, it looks like the hole is there, you'd just want to seal it back off to keep the winter air out afterwards.

I dunno..think long and hard before drilling through the firewall. There doesn't seem to be a way(on these cars of my vintage and model..Canadian 93 LX Wagon) to determine beforehand if what you are going to drill through..is 1 or two pieces of metal.Could be an inside and an outside piece.Doesn't really matter IF it is either one or two pieces.WHAT DOES MATTER is when you do easily drill through one piece..from the inside.THEN you hit an un-seen part of a weld..spot weld..BETWEEN the two pieces. This if the drill bit is small and you hit it on the edge of the weld..deflects and breaks the bit.If the bit is large enough..simply grabs the bit..and it is now crooked and you hope you are stronger than the drill.IF you hit in the centre of the weld..you are not going to drill through it.I needed about a 1/2" hole so that the cable and the attached sender for a mechanical temperature gauge could go through.A MUCH MUCH MUCH!! better idea if you are going to go through the firewall is a Dremel or rotary too with a diamond bit.You may luck out with the drill in one shot..or you may end up with a job like mine.I can't believe how long this took and how hard it was to do! So P'OD after this I just left the hole..used it for the cable and sender and never even botherred to grommet it or seal it.
