new mod - need to remove the door light console tho...

So for a while now I've been planning on buying a switch to replace one of the dead switches on my dash and open my garage door. However today I had a revelation - why not just wire the Door switch on the overhead console to always be on and use that as my garage door button? It's already labeled properly too!!

So now I just have to figure out how to remove the console. I flipped down the sunglasses holder and noticed two screws, but after I took em out the console wasn't any more willing to pop off than it was before and I didn't want to force it. Anyone ever mess with this?

you have to take a flat head and pop off the plastic piece covering the lights

then unscrew the screws there...

when taking out the whole assembly, becareful you DO NOT severe any wires, or anything be easy while you take it down, youll see what has to be unclipped...

and then youre good to go

a friend of mine wired up a button in his tib to his garage door..
pretty cool if you get it to work

Thx nisco! A friend of mine who works at a garage clued me in on the light cover, I still haven't had a chance to pop it off and take a peek up there yet tho. I'll def be careful :) Let you all know how it goes, possibly make a quick little DIY out of it.

Well it's done!! It was a bit more work that I thought it would be - the buttons are enclosed assemblies that you have to crack open but once I got past that it was just a matter of attaching the garage door circuit board (good 'ol duct tape over electrical tape, lol) making sure the door light connections remaned secure, and putting it all back together again. The one major pain in the ass was the fact that the positive battery post for the garage door wasn't attached to the circuit board, so I had to solder it on so the board would hold the battery properly. Way cool - now I just press the button and *click* garage door opens :D

You kow I have been thinking of doing this on my Santa Fe. But I have yet to tackle the job. I think I will also use the cabin lights wiring to hook up the garage remote and stick it up there next to the lights.

I wonder if there are any step by step mods out there already, it would save me the time and trouble of making one for my website.

How close is the Tib to the Santa Fe? There were no DIYs that I could find, although I honestly didn't spend much time searching, I just did it :P If you want I could take pics of what I did and post them - I have to take it apart again cause the heat caused by the car sitting out in the sun has made the duct tape holding the circuit board down come loose (at least that's my theory, the button's stuck and the door opener doesn't work anymore, hahahaa) which sucks cause I have no better way to attach the damn circuit board to the switch. Must brainstorm...

I don't think the Tib is anyway close to the Santa Fe or vice versa. I was just referring to the idea of using the cabin lights to power up the garage door remote and maybe someone already did something similar and would give me an idea of creating my own step by step to put on my website for the Santa Fe.

Although, making a step by step for the Tib (with pics) is not a bad idea. We can post it up in the Tib Modification area.
