Trouble with starter

Hi,
I'm having trouble with my 93 elantra, I recently had the motor replaced and when I try to start the car now the starter grinds against the flywheel. It usually takes a few tries before I can get it started. I spoke with the mechanic that did the swap, and he said the motor is a 2.0 liter, but then I took it to an electrical shop to fix the problem, and they told me it had a 1.5.
The mechanic told me that the nose cone of the starter is too short and that's why it won't fully engage the teeth of the flywheel. Now, I'm not too sure what size the motor is, and am unable to find the block stamp. I know on the head there is a 18 casted in the side. Would anyone be able to tell me where to find the block stamp? I really need to find out what starter this motor needs, it's becoming not very reliable.

The '93 Elantra originally came out with a 1.6L engine but was later that year also made available with a slightly larger 1.8L. I'm not seeing anywhere any vehicle specs of a 2.0L engine available. I think HMA didn't come out with a 2.0L engine until 1999 which was the BETA 1 engine. 2002 through 2005 has the BETA 2.
