i'll admit i didn't search and i'm sorry if this hasn't come up before but i've been reading msutang forums for awhile and i've never heard of this swap...they were v6 mustang forums though...anyway...i was thinking that since the 94-95 mustangs came with 302's that you should be able to use the 302 platform in the 99-04's or atleast the 94-98's. are all the motor mount positions the same? would custom motor mounts work if there weren't factory ones? the tranny should bolt up right? jsut order parts for a 94/95 gt and fab a little right?

yes you can put a 302 in any SN-95, but its not worth it, what is your current car?

well i'm contemplating either getting a fox body (how much do they weigh?) vs a 94-04 stang...i'm wanting something that'll be damn hard to beat in a straight line and still be able to corner with the best of them. i'm thinking 450-500hp should be no problem n/a and ~800hp once i go forced induction (s/c with a 100+ shot) so i can stay on pump fuel (93 octane). i wanna drop a 351 into the stang and then take it out to a 427. but which is really the better car? the fox bodies or the 94-04? fox bodies are lighter which will increase the cars potential but how do the aftermarket suspensions rate up compared to whats available for the newer cars?

Fox bodies are pretty light, I think the weight around 2800 lbs. If your making it a drag car which is sounds like you are a fox body would be better. You should run race gas, expecialy if its a drag car, or atleast mix some race gas with 93.

the only stangs that really corner are the 99,01 03-04 cobras cause they have an IRS, you can make them corner good, its just more work

I swear, this forum abounds with misinformation.
Mustang chassis are mostly the same from '79 to '04. You'll see suspension parts listed for this range of years because thay are all the same. Fox chassis cars weigh in at ~2800 stripped with a stock unibody. You can make any Fox3 corner competitively easily without IRS. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. You will not make car competitive in a straight line AND on the curves. You have to choose one or the other or a compromise of the two.

i want the best compromise of the two i can get. i wanna run 11-12's and still be able to pitch into a corner without worrying about rolling over... i'm thinking maybe i should do a coil over conversion for easy adjsut ment and jsut make adjustments depending on the application that day...this car is still going to remain a DD. from additional research i've done i think i've decided on getting a 96-98 4.6L and then just working on the motor until i can find a 05+ with a blown motor... grab that up....save up some more cash and start modifing the suspension. would suspension parts from these generation of cars be interchangeable? unless someone can tell me that i can do just as well (or pretty close to) with a foxbody stang as the later models. and thanks in advance

You can do as well in a foxbody, but finding one in good shape as a base for the project is getting harder and harder. The '94-98 SN95 'stangs have a more solid unibody due to more re-enforcement and the non-hatchback body style. The '99-'04 New Edge is just a little more solid yet, but not by much.
You could easily pick up a New Edge with a 6 banger, blown tranny or something fairly cheap and drop a carb'ed 351 in it with your choice of tranny, contact Maximum Motorsports for your suspension needs, they are second to none for road-racing setups.

well if i could do jsut as well in a fox body...shouldn't i just put the 351 in there instead? i mean its 500lbs lighter right? 99-04's weigh like 3300lbs right?

Keep in mind I said a stripped stock V8 Fox3....that means nothing but wiring, a driver's seat, and maybe the dash.
A Fox GT is usually around 3200, an LX ~3100, and a 2.3 LX with no options is usually ~2900-3000. The 2.3 had a smaller rear end and smaller brakes/lighter k-member that lightened it a bit(the 2.3 engine isn't more than 100lbs lighter than a 5.0 HO.
Anyway, weight should be the last of your concerns. Good suspension and brakes will do wonders even for a heavy car. 87-92 Supras handle pretty well and they tipped the scales at no less than 3400.

weight should be my last concern? well if i put a good suspension on car with the same amount of horsepower but one weighs a couple hundred pounds less which is going to be faster...i realize the car isn't going to be whats holding my overall speed back on the track, but i'd still rather build a better car. so is the IRS going to be that much of an improvement over the non-IRS? vs the improvement of shedding a couple hundred pounds?

Yes, it should. You can stay hung up on weight for all I care. This seems to be a hypothetical discussion anyway.
IRS isn't going to do you any favors, especially not Ford's and especially not dragracing. If you had it already, then keep it, but if you don't have it, use a stick axle.
