so, now i have my retainer, had it for a week or 2 now, and it STINKS and tastes really bad. i brush it every time i brush my teeth (like twice a day) and i do so thorouly. i also started rinsing with mouthwash with my retainer in my mouth after i brush both to try to kill some bacteria that i cant get at but it doesn't work. does anyone know how to get it to smell better and taste better? it's actually really disgusting. tomorrow night im going to soak it in mouthwash for a few minutes to kill some off.

yup, we have stuff called bracemate here, you drop a tablet of the stuff in a glass of water, it bubbles/fizzes and you leave the retainer in it during the day. ask your pharmacy for something like it. it works too, surprisingly.
i have a retainer and had "blocks" for 6 months.
blocks are like removable braces that help move your lower jaw forward when your teeth don't line-up.

i heard if you use that soaking stuff people use for dentures, then it helps clean it and helps solve some of the stink problems.

mine stunk, and stuck to the top of my mouth at night, so i couldn't sleep, so i stopped wearing it after a week. not a good decision.
my 2cents: you've dealt with the nuissance of braces for god knows how long, put up with bad taste for a bit longer, and u'll be greatly rewarded with pristine chompers.

whenever it is not in your mouth, ALWAYS keep it fully submersed in water. that will prevent germs from growing and also prevent it from warping.
