My Civic shakes some times when it's in drive 4(AT tranny) and feels like the motor is off center or like its gonna turn off and when i shift to drive 3 it goes away and feels normal. It dose this when the car is at around 30 or 40 just cruising and the shaking also goes away when I accelerate or go above 45mph. what's causing this and how can I fix this befor it getts worse or some thing breakes?
It's a 95 ex 4door d16z6 Vtec 1.6L auto tranny.:frown:

You're putting in too high of a gear (rpms are too low) and you're bogging the engine. It's perfectly normal, just don't put it in 4th when it should be in 3rd.

thats not true, my blazer is always in '4th' gear (called overdrive on automatics) it should be shifting automatically, its not like driving a manual car in 4th gear.
I dont know what is causing it to vibrate only at that speed in that gear. Take it to a shop if it bugs you that much.

if it only sjake at 30-40 it must be wheels problem
but if like its gonna turn off , it may be distrebuter , fuel filter , fuel air, spark plug, or it may be fuel problem or electric problem.
and i suggest it is wheels problem because it run well again in high speed
and its so easy to solve it just go to wheels center and they will plug small metal pice in each wheel to correct the error.

I have already done a full tune up befor (new airfilter, oil filter, fule filter, new spark plugs and wires, new distributor cap and oil change. it stoped for a bit and then started back up again a couple of weeks later. thing is though that if i swith gears while doing the same speed it will stop shaking. i think i might have to change the tranny fluid or would that not help? or could it be my fule injectors that are dirty (i'v already used fule injector cleanders to see if it would help)?

before you change the tranny please check all fuses. then try other injectors. if still. try other ecu.

I think im having the same problem, almost.
It shakes back and forth when im stopped and its in drive 4 (AT.) I got new plugs and a new fuel filter and it dulled a little but still shakes. If im in park, or in nutral it goes away, only when im sitting there stopped while its in drive.

Yeah my car dose that too. I think I'm gonna reset the ecu, but i dont remember how. I think you just have to disconnect the battery.

Sounds like you guys just need to replace your tranny. To get it fixed would be outrageous and all the other things about chainging other parts out and doing a tune up aren't going to help. It's most likely a mechanical problem in the tranny and because it's an automatic, it's going to be more expensive to fix than it is to replace the whole thing.

I was going to say possible misfire, but most likely either tranny ecu, or the tranny.

i had the same prob on my 96 ex auto... all i did was replaced the tranny mounts... not sure if it would work for u because mine didn't bog down... she just jumped like mis/backfire when it switched gears...
