CBR600RR, GSX-R600, and ZX-6R

I am buying a new bike soon and was just wondering which one is the overall better bike.

For all intents and purposes they are equal. Are these the only 3 bikes you are considering? What type of riding do you plan to do?

Theyre so dang close performance wise, just go for whichever one is the most comfortable imho.

If it's 06, I'd choose the GSXR600. Slipper clutch, adjustable riding position, and I have the experience with race reps.

i'd choose the ninja. it makes the most power stock and there is a free mod for an extra 8-10 hp that we lose due to US noise restrictions (http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/165/45/). can't beat free power.

I think the power quoted for the Gixxer is probably 05, or was dynoed wrong. No way 06 is stuck making the same power as it was back in 2001.

hhmmm... is it just me? i checked out the dyno and i see only about 2.5 hp increase.

yeah, the gains differ bike to bike. the guy who wrote the article is a Kawiforums.com member and he says his dyno showed like 10 hp but the first run the bike was "cold"(150 degrees) and says it may have been more like 4-5 hp, the dyno in the article is another member, his shows 2.5 hp gained, one guy did it and only gained 1 hp, another guy did it on his 6RR and gained almost 6 and a few other members all have had similar results and these are dyno runs so 2-5 whp would be somewhere around 10 or more at the crank.

it's still unclear exactly what the mod does, it definitely keeps the variable backflow exhaust valve from closing after 13.5K rpm, that's for certain, some speculate that it adjusts the timing as well. on the euro spec ZX6R's if you look at that relay those two wires are already connected so this pretty much makes the Us bikes Euro spec, and if you were to buy the kawi race ecu kit it connects to that relay and connects the same two wires

whats the big deal about the slipper clutch on th 06 GSXR? last i check a clutch that slipped usually gets replaced promtly , but then of course , im a car mechanic...explaination anyone? thanks

If a rider downshifts a few gears in the high revs without matching rpm or hits the rev limiter doing so, rear wheel hates it, especially during braking or leaned over. A bad shift will do anything from hopping the rear wheel (from excess torque) to locking up for few secs to even highside. A slipper clutch - aka back torque limiter - will let the rear wheel spin up freely without power from the engine for a few secs before the ECU matches up the botched up rpms. All that does, makes the bike a little safer to the inexperienced speed junkies, and lets the racers brake later carrying more speed, and then downshift with less worry and pull out of the corner always being on the powerband.

Well, the ZX-6R has the slipper clutch too, so saying get the GSXR cus of it, is moot...

Dude, it's one of the reasons among others for me to pick. Not THE reason. Relax. Also, the new R6 (slipper as well) and GSXR has the edge on HP this year compared to CBR and ZX-6R. Best reason to choose is the one that works for you, go and take a ride.

Clearly I have very little knowledge about motorcylces, but I'm a fan of the Ninja ZX-6RR, so I of course would say go with the ZX-6R. I was looking into getting a bike instead of a car, and the ZX-6R/RR was at the top of the list. But then again, I would be happy with any street Kawasaki. Or any street bike for that matter. But, yes, ZX-6R.

I agree to go with whichever feels most comfortable. When youre dealing with that kind of power and torque, the difference of 4 or 5 hp is not going to make any difference. Unless youre some kind of pro racer and intend to drive it on the street as such anyway. I would pick based on which color/body style I liked best and which one I felt best on.

Definately get the one that is the most comfortable for you. I sat on all of the new 600RRs and they all are close in weight and feel.. For me though, the ZX6R felt the most comfortable. I didn't get to sit a the Gix6 though.. They didn't have one in stock.

Unless you're a pro racer, you probably won't beable to tell the difference between any of the RR bikes.

do you guys get to test ride before you buy?

back i 99 when i was looking for my second bike i had my heart set on a cbr 600. rode it and found it boring. rode the zxr6, fzr600 and the gsxr all back to back. even rode a yzf1000 thunderace. finally settled on a gsxr750 due to thrill factor and comfort but i didn't like the styling. i couldn't even see the gauges until i got a new screen.

my point is just becasue you like a bike and sit on it, it would be good to ride before you buy

No, dealers around here will not usually test ride bikes. Sometimes the manufactuer gives demo rides at large events like Bike Week. If you are lucky enough to attend some place like that and get a chance to take some of the demos out it's a great thing! Unfortunately this isn't always possible, and the only thing you have to rely on is your butt test, or if you're lucky enough to find someone that would let you ride thiers.
