so this is what happened , i was driving home yesterday doing about 65 long drive all went well but then all of a sudden i noticed , like a bogging down , and my rpms would twitch up just a little bit when it did it ,
i was kinda low on gas i thought my gauge might have been off a little and was runing out of a gas , at this time the problem wasnt too bad , would only happened when i would try to accellerate and raise the rpms , so i got off and got some gas , now i was tryin to see if the problem was still there so i was take off and see if it sloved the problem nope didnt work , okay so back on the road i went
got about another 3 miles and the problem got worse , so i pulled off to check my fluid levels (which were fine)
then i get back in and start it , now the problem has goten worse, it doesnt idle right right , it strugles i would say , and when you put it in drive and strugles against the torque converter and would die , if not die it would idle real bad and when you went to give it gas rpm would raise then drop raise then drop so whatever i had it towed home
when i got home i started to look at it , i pulled my air filter off and would start it , sounded a little better with the idle but still had the issuse , but when i put it back on and started it died imedietly(horrible spelling yesi know bare with me) then would not start , i only tried a couple times cause i cant aford to run my battery dead not at my house with all my tools
now my question lol

what could be causing the problem , or is this a known problem , have never had any kinda issuse
with the truck ,
my thought were maybe bad cat converter or cloged fuel filter my air filter was in good shape that wasnt the issuse

just tryin to get an idea of what you guys think

If you were low on gas, you may have sucked up some junk off the bottom of the tank. The fuel filter should be removed and inspected. If the fuel filter is clean, verify that the fuel pressure is within spec (9 - 13 PSI for TBI).

I hear you on the rain. It has been raining on and off for the last 6+ weeks in San Jose. Very tired of it.

A restricted fuel filter can cause a lean condition which can cause the RPMs to jump a little.

Good luck and let's hope this rain finally stops soon.

so yes , i got a nice day of sunshine , i changed the fuel filter it was cloged no doubt , but now i cant seem to get it to start , i can prime it alittle get it to go but wont continue , i pulled the exit side tube out on the fuel filter and turned the ignition on hoping it would start the pump and fuel would start coming out didnt happen , is this cause there is a break in the loop? or should it pump fuel? or does it have to start ?

just tryin to find a way to check to see if the pump is working without spending 45$
also had my brother crank it over as i watched the injectors... no gas
think i could have burned the pump out by runing withthe cloged filter? or could there be another reason why

Yepp, you could very well have burned the pump running it low on fuel, it happened to myself, as well as many others as I have seen on this board, I figured my pump when mine died similar to yours, I turned the key to on with my door open and heard no sound of the pump running, the pumps are usualy pretty noisy, if you run them on a low tank they burn out is what I have heard,
too bad you fueled up, now you'll either have to drain the tank or raise the bed to change the filter.
funny thing is that after i had changed the pump i was messing with the old one and had it hooked up to a power source i kind of smacked it a bit with a screwdriver and the damn thing sprung back to life, having too much time on my hands i rigged the thing to one of those desktop water pond things and for two years now the thing has been pumping faithfully for 10 hrs a day in a little plant display thing on my back porch,
though i wouldnt have trusted it back in my truck.

when raising the bed all it is is like those 6 bolts and disconnecting the line to the gas spout ? have you done it b4? would that be the route to go i got a little less then half a tank in a 22gallon tank

I have seen on this board many times before that guys prefer to raise the bed, the 6 bed mount bolts the filler hose and some wiring, myself i had very little fuel, (I figure why the pump went) maybe 5 gal, i was getting ready to get gas at the next exit. anyways I had a camper and such and on a vacation so dropping the tank was my only real option.
but this was not that bad, 2 tank straps filler hose wiring various small hoses to the top of the pump mount (tank), first I eased one side of the tank down then the other till I could reach the top of the tank remove hoses wiring then took one side all the way off and set it on the ground then the other side, installation reverse of removal, I really didnt have many options, no floor jack etc, in the middle of nowhere.
I guess if I had to do it all over again under more favorable conditions i'd still drop the tank, if you raise the bed you'll need to find a good way to do this, the only segestion I have read on this board is to call a few friends over for help, hope all goes well with it.
