Door lock solenoids

Does anyone know a way to check the Door Lock Solenoids on a 99 Grand Am. My locks have yet to work since I bought the car and though that was something I haven't checked yet to see if I need new ones.

You hav the power door lock button on the door, if that works the locks its not the selenoids.

If you are using a keyless entry and its not working them, then I'd check the relays in the dash fuse box

Well the problem is that the button on the door doesn’t work the locks and I don't have a remote for the car even though I think it's supposed to have one. I went through this afternoon and checked the passenger side solenoid and it worked. So now I'm thinking there must be a break in the wires sending the signal to lock the doors. I have checked the relays for continuity and they all worked fine and you could hear the clicking coming from the relays. So I don't know what it is. But if anyone has any ideas as to what to look at next please let me know.

Also I read on an earlier post that the way to tell if your car is equipped with keyless is to look on the underside of the spare tire cover at the list of codes I guess for "AU0". I'm sure that right but I just wanted to check.

ya I'd start with the button thats not working and pop it out and make sure the plug-in is connected.
Could just hav some crap in/under the button not letting it work. Those selenoids are a PITA to get to and or replace, not much rooom to work in these doors.

Ya the code is on that panel in the trunk, but I'm not sure exaclty what the code is, though AU0 does sounds right.

If none of your buttons for the lock work i'd try to get that figured out first, could be bad buttons, or it could be a power issue. You said you know where the relay is in the fuse box, & you've checked the resistance, have you used a test light to see if your getting power there? Im not positive how they have these wired, but there may be a fuse or fuseable link bad. Does everything else in the car work? I'd guess its a power issue, and if you have alot of things in the car not working then its probably a bad fuseable link (in the wiring that comes off the starter to feed power to the rest of the car). If you think its button problems try getting one or two from a junk yard, or maybe you can use a power window button to test it (if its the same plug).

It's not that the buttons don't work, b/c when I press them I get the warning that the doors are going to lock "Ding Ding Ding" and if I press them again I can hear the relays click. The problem is that the doors are supposed to lock when the relay clicks and they aren't locking. The way I tested the relays was the way my Haynes Manual said to do it and they all seemed fine, and they seem to be getting power since they are clicking. Sorry for the confusion on my last post. I don't know if that explanation rings any bells for anyone if it does let me know.

replace the relay.
Just because it has continuity with Ohms, when its energized its probly not workin.
They can click and still be bad.

Is there a constant 12v at the relay (to power the lock solenoid)...if not then a fuse is out or there is a problem with the power going to the relay...if there is the constant 12v at the relay then you have to check the connection from the relay to the solenoid.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But did you ever figure out what was wrong? Mine is doing the exact same thing
