Yea I just want to try it on Infineon, I'm not expecting great results but I'm just interest to see how hard I can push it into the turns. I'm ognna explore a bit for some more RWD cars....

i've made 15 cars solely for infineon, the second one is my record holder, that's a lot of money wasted...

also, testing my new NSX-R, running 1:28s. (not as good as my others though)

yes, it's going backwards.

I tried a Ford GT modded for Infineon. Twitchiest motherfucker I've ever driven. The first four corners were making me suicidal with it.

The HSC is only the third car I've tried on it...

2.2 that pic is kind of confusing. Did you spin out or something?

Hobbes

Not to worry XeVeN. Today I was just going over cars to see if I could get anything good. So far I'm very comfortable with the NSX and the RUF so I know I can tweak it more and probably break 1'30.xxx...

Now if I can remember how to do this:

************************************************** *************************

We are within the middle of Week 1 of our new GT4 Competition. And this competition now includes two race types, grip and drift. We'll start with grip racing.

The grip race is held at Infineon Raceway - Sports Car Course and we have brought up some good times. Our two best times for now is:

2.2 Straight Six - BMW M3 CSL '03 - 1'28.051
Heep - Honda HSC '04 - 1'28.951

Other player's best times:

XeVeNskyLiNE - Chevy Corvette Z06 '00 - 1'30.067
L-Spec - Honda NSX Type R '02 - 1'29.732
FlippiN.af - Chevy Camaro - 1'36.298
Hobbes - RUF RGT '00 - 1'32.855
Rally Sport 92 - Nissan 300ZX (Z31) '83 - 1'33.506

***Please remember to make your time official by stating your car, track and time. (The time in red if possible) If I missed your time, let me know. I spent 30 mins. trying to write them down.***

************************************************** **********************

Our drift race is held at Trial Mountain and this proved to be difficult for many players. The only times recorded so far is:

L-Spec - Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02 - 1'33.994
Heep - BMW M Coupe '98 - 1'42.467
FlippiN.af - Chevy Camaro Z28 '97 - 1'41.520
XeVeNskyLiNE - Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02 - 1'44.256

************************************************** ***********************

With half a week left we are having a good turnout, but now the questions remain:

Will the Infineon raceway break 1'27.xxx? (You bet)
Will more people find the magic touch on Trial Mountain? (It's possible)

We will have to wait till the end of the week. :)

************************************************** ***********************

God that was a lot of work...

2.2 that pic is kind of confusing. Did you spin out or something?

yep, get to the first conrner, turn gently and the tail goes wild, try to countersteer and it get thrown the other way around. the car slid sideways accross the bump-strips making the sparks then did about 75 backwards up the hill. M3 CSL goes around that turn perfectly if you get the line right, i keep braking late and it misses the track.

......................

As for Trial Mountain though, is it because you guys don't drift as often? I'm hitting constant 1'36.xxx times after returning to it and not being used to shitty tires :icon16: Well.. if it helps any, I can give a few pointers, but ignore them, if they might seem a little beginnerish...

Well, I dunno if any of you guys are experiencing this, but I'm having insane understeer issues with these shitty N3 tires. Heep apparently has oversteer issues, but probably due to the torque differences (go turbo!). This being said, I found it easier to swing the rear end loose by tapping the brakes, turning the steering all the way and let it slide on it's own for about 1/8th of a second and then giving it gas to regain traction -- not drift, so use throttle control accordingly.

The first few turns before the tunnel, you can use an inertia drift -- swing the car around with momentum -- and then give it throttle. Through the rocky mountain pass, I found grip driving to be the fastest way through here. Brake early.. yadda yadda yadda.

The turn after the second tunnel is a doozy! I did an insane drift, but big showy drifts do not equal faster times :nono: Grip drive this one too. The turns after it can be inertia drifted. Drift through the semi-hairpin turn and set up for an power-over drift -- turn the car as much as possible and force a drift with throttle -- to drift through the turn by the sand area and then head to the last turn before the finish line.

There is a secret to this sequential turn (and it's not plowing through the grass, don't be a bastard!). Lightly graze the red and white track lines (i dunno what to call them haha) with your two left tires and don't add any throttle. The left side of your car will hop (height depending on your suspension, I used the stiffest suspension) and just before your left tires make contact with the tarmac again, turn and give it WOT. One wheel turning and one wheel pushing momentum will be enough to cause a small drift and by the time your left tires touch ground again, you'll be at the second corner (the red and white track lines to the right). Brake if you need to, but running over them and adjusting the throttle will make the difference of going in a straight line and spinning out here. If you're airbourne, drop before you give it throttle or your tires will be spinning and the finish line will be further than you thought it was. If all goes good, by the time you're done killing your suspension, your car should be pointed directly at the finish line.

When I reach the star/finish line, I'm usually hitting about 190 km/hr at that point (just for comparison). It's the fastest ways that I find. Most people are used to drifting in GT3 where it was more forgivable with steering, but in GT4 there's that horrible "snap-back" affect when your tires suddenly regain traction. My solution is to learn to have the rear tires steer the car (by throttle control) and have the front tires adjusting any small changes needed to prevent "snap-back". I rarely countersteer in GT4, I see almost no point to it. I only see it helpful if you have a steering wheel like Heep though... how is that steering wheel by the way? Does it make racing seem easier or indifferent?

Anyways, I hope that helps. I could post a lap on video to demonstrate all this mumbo jumbo that I babble on about if you guys would like me to. As for those who have cars that are oversteer happy, throttle control  Just jokes. I think I might try out the BMW on Trial Mountain and see what happens.

It's getting late though.. it's like 3:00am and I'm still playing GT4 lol. It's bugging me how I'm so close to 2.2's time. Damn you 2.2!

holy crap! nice job. i wish i could beat my own time but it's elusive, maybe it's time to break out my RX-7 then, give you a run for your money.

i've bought so many cars for this, a fully modded caterham seven (like 1.5 PTWR, already had it, thought it would be good.) runs in the high 1:30s. a jag XJ220 can't match the bmw either. i think i've spent about 5.5 million Cr. so far...

try adjusting the toe in to something like +4. the BMW had ridiculous understeer but i adjusted the suspension settings to compensate, not it doesn't understeer, and it only oversteers if you run the rears off the track.

my BMW's useless at trial mountain though.

Yes on Trial Mountain I get severe oversteer on that track.. seems I gotta tune it a bit more for it.. what I found being usefull is being in 2nd gear then hitting the gas so my rear end swings out the way I want it too.. helps out really nicely.

I've tried tuning the suspension to help, but it doesn't. My driving is waaay too agressive and I brake really late and it's only to shift the weight. There's just no traction from the tires. It's the brake balance that needs tuning, but it either grips, but barely slows down the car, or else it grabs the wheels and I get understeer. Locked tires = no traction = me throwing my controller at the TV.

I'm drifting just fine on trial mountain and thats probally the problem, I can't get much grip or else I'll understeer right off the track.

This competition is taking too much out of me. I need to go to the auto show that's coming into the city this weekend. They're also doing autoX demos and I'm in it so I should get some sleep. Then again.. GT4 is really addicting.. I've lost too much sleep to this game, haha. I tried a Lotus Elise and managed to get a 1'29.870 lap on Infineon. Do you guys feel that have more weight on more power is better than light weight with less power?

I was doing some 60mph go karting yesterday at work. My boss rules :)

I've been thinking about the same thing regarding a lot of weight and brute force, or little weight and average power. What I've found is that the light cars can brake far later, take the turns slightly faster (not as big a difference as I expected), but lose out on the charge to the next turn. I'm finding the best success with a car right between the two, with an average weight and 400ish hp.

Apricot Hill sounds fine, but I also want something a tad more technical to up the competition. Drift sounds like it's a tough thing to set up, especially with tire restriction because to drift a car, it takes driver preference and I found it hard to initiate drifts. They were more powerslides than anything. My driving is really agressive so I brake late and that means high speed drifts. For example, with the hign-end sports tires, I can drift that huge turn after the tunnel on Trial Mountain in an AWD vehicle reaching 180+ km/h by the time I hit the turn, but not with the econo tires. I had to grip drive that turn and it broke my heart.

Also, Amalfi is a really good technical track. I say an open competition there (AWD,RWD,FWD) and have some power restrictions or PTWR or whatever. The reason I don't like Sarthe is because it's too long of a straight away. I find it kind of boring and avoid the track like a plague. I ran the Sarthe in an endurance run and I couldn't even take five laps. I'd really like to see an AWD race on pavement though. I've been itching for one for quite a while.

As far as I know L-Spec has Trial Mountain in the bag.
You guys should put something about in your sigs so more people will get interested in this.

L-Spec I don't know if you had hard time drifting, I was using so many different techniques and they all worked for me. Power over, Feint, E-Brake, Shift Lock, it was all working for me. I don't know what else to do to make the drift part any better, the shitty tires are used for that reason, to drift. It's alot harder with any grade slicks but for the me the Road tires break loose but grip just enough for me to take good enough lines. But what do you suggest? This time we'll just make the drivetrain an open choice so if you want to try to bust out some 4WD drifts, go for it.

Amalfi is fine as long no one wall rides the whole thing. I wanna do Nurburgring, only becuase I know I'd win and everyone would be driven up a wall, I love that track :licka: That'd be an awesome track to do if you guys really want to go 4WD though. I'm going to drop the PTWR a little just so we can use some beasts. Maybe about 2.300 or so.

But Apricot Hill is a lock for the drift part, that track has some great turns for some really fast drifts. I love the 3 turns after the first long corner.

Haha, drift bible kick ass :)

I honestly don't know what to do about the drift runs, because again: it's all about prefewrence. The way it's running now is fine, but it'll seem more of a grip race than a drift.

I think we should do Nurburgring as some sort of finale since it seems to be the big grand dadday..

I'm up for the multiple drivetrain entry too, but I'm going to tell you right now.. FF isn't going to look so pretty haha.

Um, which one is citta di aria again? Its that twisty tarmac rally course isn't it? Or how about that one rally track that runs through the middle of a town? I forgot what its called. Either way I'm cool with that, lets do open drivetrain entries this time. 2.300 PTWR

I'll start a new one as soon as my home DSL is working again, I'm at school right now so I can't do much.

I think you're thinking of Costa de Amalfi or whatever, Citta Di Aria is the one with blasts through narrow streets between Italian buildings :)

Oh hell yes. Ok, Citta Di Aria for grip and Apricot Hill for drift. Man the new week's grip event is going to be intense! I'll be starting up the new one soon.
