Well this is my first post on this board. im a regular over at www.honda-tech.com
anyway, In the next couple years i want to bring a skyline into the US but im not paying some god awful 100,000$ from motorex for an r34 gtr.
I am planning on going to japan in the next couple years, buying one while im there. then having it fregithed back to here. Im just curious if there is anyway to leagally register it here or am i going to have to use it for a track only car?
someone reccomended buying an old 240 and just swapping the vin number into the skyline then saying its a full conversion. but i dont like the idea of that.

Yes, there are ways you could do that, but they are not truely legal. Heck, you could strip it down and re-build it and apply for a kit car title. The only legal way of doing it is going through MotoRex.

Gonthrax,
Just to let you know I just bought that rear grip package from Maximum Motorsports last week, you know the one, where those guys installed it on a stock LX and it did over 72mph in the slalem.
Before this is installed I would be a sitting duck (quack, quack) to any of the cars over here. In a straight line I would be OK, but if you put one turn in my way  I am off to milk the cows:D
So it looks like I am going to be under a deadline for me to get everything installed before Nite gets his ride, or I will only being seeing his four round lights, if I even that:p
I am installing some Corbeau seats this weekend. I will take some pics.

I believe you have to have the car in your possession for a year in order to bring the car over if you are not a business like Motorex. I'm not sure though.
Yeah, the only way to legally bring the car over is to go through Motorex. The cheapest you are gonna get if you get the car in Japan is $16,000 not including the all the bs you have to go through with customs. And that is trying to bring even a GTS-t. You are gonna have to look at a race standard vehicle. Believe me there is a guy over here trying to bring his R32 GTR right now to the states. He did his research. I'm talking about nearly gutting the thing and having all the racing features to make it racing. As for a show car forget it also. There was someone trying to bring back a car that was only a production of around a few hundred made in Australia and they denied them.
I'm not trying to discourage it is just that do your research fully and not half-assed so you don't get to customs and look like a deer in the headlights look.
