like a week and a half ago, i just changed my oil and just today, my check oil light came on and checked it, looks like i already need more oil. i have 140,000 miles and change my oil every 3000 miles, well almost consistently. usually i put 10W30 grade oil in, but my last oil change they put 10W40. is this ok and is this what caused it to burn so quickly? the mechanic said its better to put 10W40 in a car over 100,000 miles, is this true? ill just put more oil in it for now.

You sure you don't have an oil leak anywhere? I remember Nissan recomands 5w-30, 10w-30 is ok to use. But if you are sure your engine is burning oil, then 10w-40 will help slow down the burning.

Where is the leak coming from? Oil pan? Valve cover, main seals?

they said i had to change a lot of things. personally i dont really know much stuff under the car, but here are the prices for all the replacement parts (not just for the oil leak).
power steering pump reseal - $135
change belts - $95
output shaft seal - $85
oil pan gasket - $120 (where oil is leaking)
front crank seal - $100
pressure wash - $40
all this plus tax, damnit hope they are ripping me off so i wont actually have to replace all this :hehe:

$120 for replacing the oil pan gasket isn't bad if it' for both oil pans. They shouldn't charge for labor on replacing the drive belts because replacing the front crank seal requires the removal of the belts and pulley. So you should only pay for belts on the labor to replace them.
