This sux... I'm 16, have had my liscence for about 5 months, and got caught speeding. Well, I was driving my friend home one night and she was late and I was outta gas, so we were goin to the gas station and I was doin 85 on a two lane road w/ no one in sight. Cop caught me and pulled me over. I got written up for 85 in 45 and careless driving. I was polite and cooperative w/ the cop and he just asked where i was goin and coming from and why I was speeding. So, after that, I drove home. Now, I got a letter from the police saying that my court date is changed because I am a juevenille, so I have to go to Juevenille court. So, I have to go to court in like 2 weeks. Has anyone else done something like this, and what were the consequences? This really sux....:banghead: Everyone is telling me that my liscence will be suspended until I'm 18. Is there any way to only have to pay the fine and go to traffic school and maybe get liscence suspended for only like 6 months or something?? I really need some help on this one.....
Thanx!!
Thanx!!

1) Tell your parents.
2) Think about getting a lawyer.
You probably will lose your license, depending on your state, and your laws, but most have laws where if you get a ticket in the first 6 month or year, you lose your license.
You definantly need to dress up, bring a parent to court, and have them talk. Don't make up stupid excuses, don't lie, just ask for leniency. A lawyer may help. But it really comes down to the judge, some may want to teach you a lesson, some may be willing to overlook your first offense.
Can't really say much about speeding, because I do it all the time too, but at least hopefully you get some experience from this, and learn when and where to speed. If you are going to do it, you will get caught, you just have to learn how to be more aware of your driving, the police, and how to deal with the consequences.
I'd read up on here, there are alot of good posts in response to how to act in court, etc. Also some states have different policies liek traffic school and defensive driving, so you should really call your DMV or local courts and ask what your options are. Usually secretaries have tons of info and are quite helpful if you are polite to them.
Also if you do lose your license, many states have conditional licenses, so you can get to school and work, if you can prove you need the license for those.
Best of luck.

Get a radar detector even if you don't always speed. They could be illegal where you live though...Mine has come in handy even when going only 10 over the limit.

It hardly helps at all. Its just a false sense of security.

How is a radar detector hardly any help at all? If you get one that detects radar and laser 360 degrees around the vehicle then they have nothing out right now that they could use to give you a speeding ticket.

You will lose your liscense but I doubt until you are 18. Just go to court, be honest, and see how it goes. THere is nothing you can really do to completely get away with it.
I have a radar detector. I only use it for long highway drives. I think it works.

While that is true, you'd be surprised how many cops leave their radar on all the time.
Yes it is a false sense of security, but if you learn to use it as a supplement to keeping your eyes open, it helps. I had one for 2 years, and while I still got pulled over a few times with it, it did save me PLENTY of times. Definantly worth $80 on ebay.

Im not denying that they can work. They are a false sense of security though. Anyone who thinks a radar detector will allow them to speed at will and not get caught is an idiot.

Out of gas and doing 85? If you are out of gas you should be doing 45 so your car gets the best out of each drop of gas it can get.

lol someone told me that here in nebraska if you are going 30 over the limit or more, they get you for wreckless endangerment. he claimed that they can get you for attempted vehicular manslaughter or something like that if you have a passenger in the car, but i doubt it lol

5 tickets, 19 years old, michigan, lost licence one month, 6 months driving from 6 am to 10 pm restriction... lazar radiar is less then 6'' in dia. good luck with the radar gun when its not pointed at it (the cop was real informitive on that lesson) and at 40 over your lucky you weren't arrested even though your only 16 as mentioned that can be classified as wreckless endangerment, and if in an accident, attempted vehicular manslaughter... i hate to sound all responcible but save it for the track speed racer
