Does anyone know if they make new headlamp assemblies for a 2000 maxima with a low beam and high beam seperate so you can add a HID Kit and not lose high beam capabilities?

Hey,
Just to let you know, I did find that there is a kit that offers the HID lighting system w/o losing your highbeams... but I don't remember what manufacturer it is. It goes for about 600 dollars and it's an aftermarket part. The only thing is that they are still illegal and you might be pulled over......but not likely!

I thought that true HIDs were completely legal. It was the fake little cheap ones that were illegal. I could be wrong tho.

I could be wrong, but it is a genuine HID kit. I saw it in a magazine when I was at my local accessoriez dealer. He said that you can still use both the Low Beam and High beam... you change the bulb and also you put in the converter kit. All for around 600 dollars. Maybe I'm wrong... but it sounds too good to be true.... What do you think?

Also,
HID kits for cars that do not actually have the Zenon bulb option when the car is first bought is illegal. If the car has that option when the car is brand new, then it is legal.... otherwise it is considered illegal.... Again... I could be wrong :)

I know that Phillips makes conversion kits for almost any bulbs. A good website to check it out is xenonshop.com. They state that if you replace your single bulb headlight with a HID kit you will lose your high beam. I really want to do the conversion thought because of the big difference at night. The 2002 max has a head light assembly with both a high beam and low beam seperate. I wonder if it would fit the assembly on a 2000 and if you can even buy them aftermarket? I will look into the whole headlamp assembly HID conversion kit.

Hello SDiablo512,
You can check out those kits at www.autolamps-online.com , a lot of people got their kits from this company, it has a very good reputation, and I got my from PML (Phoenix Micro Lite) at http://www.galaxymall.com/auto/microlite/products.html , You can ask for Bob, he is very helpful though.
It is around $600.00/kit, and you have to mention to them that what size, type of bulbs you have, and Reflector or Projector housing. There is only one bulb for the HID kit, it is D2, it comes in two set up.... D2R for reflector housing, and D2S for Projector housing. Wish you luck.
