Ok, I have a 95 cavalier that I bought 2 years ago for $500, so I'm not looking to put any money into this thing. It has ran well for the past 2 years......until now.
It seems almost as if I am overheating the transmission. It is a 2.2L with a 3 speed auto, 130k miles. After long drives on the highway at 75-80mph, it will not downshift. The car will continue to act this way until it has sat for some time and cooled off.
I do enjoy working on cars, but have never dealt with an automatic transmission before, so I'm looking for an idea of where to look. I have checked/changed the ATF several times, and it is not leaking. Anyone have some idea of what might be going on here?
TIA,
Eric

if you don't care about the car, toss it and buy another one
