Impreza WRX - BMF nightmare!

Just finished this today (well nearly finished - panel lines are this evenings' job). Fujimi 1/24 Subaru Impreza WRX Type R STi. Built mostly OOB except I cut out bonnet vents, made twin exhaust tail pipes and changed wheels to Fujimi 17in TRD Sports. Stripes and WRX graphics made from BMF.

This build is not perfect, but it was fun. Infact I never intended to complete this kit. I got it part built from a mate who started it but lost interest half way through. I was going to use the interior parts for another project so I had a 'spare' bodyshell to play with. I was just experimenting and found some unexpected inspiration.

Looks cool, the BMF really goes well with that colour. Did you put clear over the BMF?

Nice work with the BMF, I bet that a sod to do ?

The colour is Ford Mercury Grey, painted using Halfords sprays. The stripes were really easy to do with BMF as it easily conforms to the shape of the body. The WRX logos were a real pain to both cutout and apply. The BMF is quite fragile and easily torn. The R on one side broke in half as I separated it from the backing. I applied it in 2 parts and the join is only just noticable. I put quite a heavy coat of clear laquer over the top to protect the BMF from peeling due to handling/polishing.

Extra pic below shows the finished item along with a previous 'standard' build.

really turned out nice and I like how you made the graphix. the 2 of them side by side is great, like each one compliments the other. very nice display stand also, the wrx looks perfect on it.

its not a nightmare, its a dream. great job! did you tint the windows too? they look "smoked". I wouldn't mind driving a car that looked like that.

The side and rear windows were tinted using Alclad Smoke

The two Imprezas you've got there go together quite nicely :)

Sorry for the newby question but as your are in the UK is BMF (bare metal foil) called something else is it just tin foil?

BMF (bare metal foil) is a thin self adhesive metal foil for detailing model cars.

Awesome idea, and exceptionally well executed. How you managed to cut and apply that finicky BMF so well is beyond me.
