My friend is selling his older model kicker L7 Solobaric 15'' for 80 bucks. its the one thats black. i am thinkinga bout buying it, although it crackles a little bit at low volumes. does anyone know what this could be? could i send it to kicker and have them fix it for a reasonable price? should i buy it or not?

no they won't repair it for reasonable price, and if it crackles at low volume i imagine it does at high as well you just can't hear it cuz bass is louder lol, but that's just a sign of an old ass speaker

but i dont know if i want a subwoofer that is eventually going to sound shittier and shittier. i dont like the fact that it crackles :frown: how much do you think theyd charge to fix it? or could i have it fixed at a local car audio place?

i'd go with your local audio places? call a few and get som estimates
and more than likely it won't get shittier sounding, it'll jus blow lol

Hook it up to another amp and see what it sounds like. Most of the time sub problems are actually amp problems.

I havent actually heard it. He just tells me it crackles a little bit. He said it still hits just about as hard or just as hard as it did. Hes running a Kicker 800w amp. This sub im talking about is sitting in his garage right now, so I cant really hook it up to another amp. I could, however, listen to the one thats in his car now (the same exact sub, he had 2, but only runs one now) and see if IT crackles at all, if so, then it must be the amp, and I am going to buy the sub asap if thats the case.

In my experience CRACKLING is never a good thing, and in ONLY my experience every sub that I have ever owned that crackled... was on its way out. 80 bucks isnt bad for a 15 inch L7 but, 80 bucvks wasted when it blows will still be lost money... also would not recommend shipping it back to kicker, the shipping alone on a sub that heavy will cost ya 40 bucks. My recommendation would be to check out e bay, they always have good kicker stuff on there and if your looking to save money... check out a refurbished L7 15... bet ya could find one for bout 150 bucks on there... and it wont crackle ;)
