My cousin has always been a big fan of his, so I've heard my share of Proof's freestyles and other stuff. I always liked him, too...and I don't even really listen to rap anymore. RIP Proof.

"Many rappers also feel a sense of bravado, a need to prove that despite their wealth and success, they're unafraid to confront the conflicts and complications that face their brethren.

'There is a certain honor associated with not backing down, which will contribute to escalating certain situations that people who don't have that image to uphold might sidestep,'"

Maybe this is my young, white woman coming out, but I'd be a sellout...

If that is the case then I must be a young white woman too cuz I sure as hell would "sell out" though I would look at it as makin sure I live long enough to enjoy my riches without blowing it on stupid shit like lawyers and funerals for myself

I'd look at is as, "Holy shit, I'm selling out because I don't want to get shot!"

Proof's friends said his allegiance to the ghettos of his hometown, and his willingness to partake in dangerous situations, grew even as his success afforded him other options.

i understand you've come from, i understand the shit you dealt with, and how you gotta stick to your roots, but if opportunity lets you escape that shithole, then stop trying to seem noble by being the very thing you aspired to escape. yeah, that sounded pretty stupid and pretty "middle-class white american" but fuck that shit, thats the only thing i have agianst rap artists. but to those who appreciate that, well, first, to all their own, and second, i respect that. we've all got our views, this one was mine. i respect a lot of artists for where they came from, but not so much what they've become, or rather, still are.
