Part Throtle Ping

My 2002 LS V8 sport pings with the gas pedal half to three quarts pressed and RPMs above 3500. More throttle and no ping. It is a little worse using the manual shift. Of course Lincoln service can not duplicate the issue:screwy: I am using 93 octane fuel and am at sea level. Brand of gas does not matter. In the summer heat the problem gets worse.
I have read a few threads where others are complaining of similar problems. I don’t like it and am looking for a solution for making it go away:banghead:
P.S. Don’t these cars have knock sensors? I have a scan tool, any ideas on which PIDs to monitor would be helpful.
Thanks

Are you confident it is a ping and not a misfire? Do you feel the engine bucking, or just hear a slight tapping? Does you scan tool have the I/M Readiness and does that show any misfire counts for any of the cylinders, even if no cylinders fail?

No misfire, it is knock/ping.

Mine has always done this. Well...until I got the Xcal, anyway.
Too much "vacuum" advance. Not sure what it's called now, but it's the part throttle advance that used to be vacuum advance back in the day.

So with the XCal you removed some part throtle spark advance, but left the WOT setting alone?
Or did you remove a global amount of advance, like twisting the distributer?
I would hate to have to give up full throtle power in echange for less pinging. The car never pings at WOT.

I just pulled some light load/low rpm advance. My overall performance is improved and so is my driveability.
