Is it possible just to replace the A/C compressor clutch?

I have a 2002 with a 3.2 L. I haven't done much A/C work, but it seems that you could do this with the compressor still attached if you had the clearance and room to work. I'm not sure that is the case...looks like it may have to come off to work on it. Regardless, I found just the clutch for pretty cheap, especially compared to ~$500 for a new compressor.
If this is possible, does anyone know how much it would run or how to go about doing it myself? Please answer me...someone.
Thanks,
Tom C.

My 1999 Passport service manual makes no mention of clutch replacement. It does however have a 20 step algorithm "Magnetic clutch Does not Run". Could it be your clutch per se has not failed but rather one of the many electrical circuits that control it?
