I searched and didnt really find what I was looking for, what was included in the WS6 package on the 3rd gen Firebirds? I ask because my 82 Trans Am parts car has WS6 on it. I have a 86 Firebird base model I drive well used to drive before the 6 cyl went out on me. thanks in advance

The WS-6 option is the optional performance suspension package for the Trans Ams and Firebirds. Stiffer springs, stronger anti sway bars, better performing shocks, etc.. The WS-6 also involves 4 wheel disc brakes.

Even the 2nd gen cars had the WS-6 option, too. It just wasn't marketed strongly until the 4th gen cars with badges, etc.

I was told on the third gens anyhow (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the "WS-6" is the performance suspension plus 4 wheel disc brakes, the WS-7 is the performance package with drum rear brakes.

So- check the springs and sway bars on your parts car. If they're original they will be thicker. (Use a caliper to measure) You can add them to your firebird if you want a stiffer ride. Just note that you'd be adding springs designed to hold the weight of a V-8 engine on a car with a v-6 inside. It may become too stiff and actually hurt your handling. (Yes, it is possible to have too stiff a spring. you should consult with someone who builds race car suspension, or at least get more opinions on this before you do it) Maybe just swap the sway bars with the '82 pieces?

do you plan on making a v8 engine swap in your '86? If yes, definitely upgrade the suspension.

At the least remove them from the car before you sell it/ junk it. Also check the rear axle- it may be a posi unit. Also worth keeping.

I hope this is helpful.

Here is what it consisted of:

WS6 was standard an all Formulas in the 3rd generation.

16-inch polished "Pontiac Snowflake" aluminum wheels
R-rated tires from the factory
Tear-drop cowl hood
Larger front/rear anti-sway bars
Stiffer shocks
Tigher ratio springs
Dual oulet mullfer

*Note: the WS6 package changed slightly in 91-92, as did the entire car, but changes are minor:

16-inch five-point wheels
36MM Front Stabilizer Bar
24MM Rear Stabilizer Bar
Performance Bushings

Thanks for the info guys. I am swapping the V8 engine in after I find a bell housing and a couple other trivial parts. I went out and did some measuring and looks like the only thing on the car thats off a WS6 is the rims, my 6 cyl has bigger rear stabilizer bar than the trans am does. Does any body know how to tell the difference between a 305 and a 350?
