Perfect car for a teenager

Okay so our 1998 Grand Caravan had the tranny go out again for the second time. It will not go into 3rd gear, and sometimes slips when driving. While this might be frustrating for most, I'm okay with it and here's why: My son just recently got his drivers license, and it has become the perfect car for tooling around in town! He takes it to school and to work and back home, never exceeding 35 or 40 MPH. I think its funny, and when I tell this story to my co-workers they say that they want a car like that for their kids.
Okay, it has 175K+ miles on it and we probably would have gotten rid of it soon anyways. The tranny shop says it'll probably cost about $1000 to fix it, but this car isn't worth fixing again. Besides maybe more damage is being done as we continue to drive it until it dies completely.

I'm betting you already know to use only ATF-3 transmission fluid and that anything else will create problems like yours.
