Strange way to do this but this was the post you sent us to read:

"I jacked up my rear-end to check the wheels, suspension, etc. Both of my rear wheels move "in and out" when i push and pull on them. When i push and pull my rear wheels (toward one another, horizontally) i get an inch or so of play in each one. it appears that the play is in the rear calipers??? When i pull the on the wheel, i can see the caliper slide on the mounting bolt... Does this make sense? Is this normal? PLEEEASE, any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance."

And the answer is - no the calipers are not the hold in devive but sounds like the internal C clips in your rear are not in! No clue how this occurred but you are luckly both axles haven't come out the axle housing and destroyed it and lots more. This all assumes it really is 1" and not the typical GM 1/8" slop. You must remove the diff cover and inspect the center assembly and see if the C clips are in there from waht you stated. I would first take the wheels off and test just the axle play. The calipers slide as the brakes are applied and the discs wear.
