ok this kid that has a 95 gst said that on all eclipse turbo models the gauge that reads the turbo is terrible and does not do it correctly. is this true?

Unfortunately the kid who told you about the stock boost gauge is right. It is not an accurate tuning tool. The first thing you will hear from any experienced DSM tuner (esp 2G owners) is that you need a proper boost gauge before attempting any other mod's. From my own personal experience, when I was building my first IC pipe, I blew a connection and was leaking boost badly (I was building 8psi instead of 14) However the stock gauge still showed that I was at max boost. Plus if you will notice the stock gauge has no actual numbers on it, just a plus and minus sign. If you try to tune soley off you stock gauge you will end up over boosting and blowing your motor. The $50 a real gauge costs is invaluable.

so this is also true for the 1999 gst?

I have found that pretty much all stock gauges are inaccurate and are poor for tuning. My gauge is pretty accurate, the gauge is like this:
Vacuum 30 - 15 - 0 - 5 - 10 - 15 Boost.
Still I would NEVER use it for tuning.
Vacuum 30 - 15 - 0 - 5 - 10 - 15 Boost.

I agree, I won't mod my car (turbo mods anyways) until I get an aftermarket boost gauge...
Mine reads from -7 to 0 to 7... with a red zone starting halfway between 0 and 7...
Its fun to watch it go side to side as I flick the gas pedal... but i doubt its accurate at all

While I dont have an Eclipse or Talan, the 3000GT gauges are absolute shit. Not worth the space they are taking in the dash.

Yeah, that was my old supra. I should have the new pics of my other supra soon. It's a T-78 single turbo top secret yellow supra. Yeah, the supras came with one engine temp, gas, tach, and speed. I guess the jap's knew the 2JZ engine wouldnt fuk up so they didnt supply gauges. Cant blame them...
