Noticing a little slip during shifts even after fluid and filter change. Just wondering if i were to go with the 700r4 tranny is it as simple as plug-n-play with the install?

It's not quite plug and play if you have a 2004R. You will need to replace your crossmember and your driveshaft. The 700R4 is a little longer (about 2 inches) than the 2004R, and the transmission mount is closer to the pan (TH350 style vs. TH400 style on the 2004R). The dipstick tube will also need to be for a TH700R4. Aside from that, it's fairly straightforward. You can use your current TV cable, and the TCC cable is the same on both.
If you have a '4L60', then you need do nothing. You already have a TH700R4.

once again thank you silicon212! another question has anyone else tried this? the new crossmember i can get from??? and last but not least, i noticed that engine temp tends to go up and down, (not overheating) USUALLY down when driving, i was told that this was because of the tranny in some way?

In a '92 Caprice, you should have a TH700-R4. A '93 may have a 4L60 (not "E" variant). It's a slight revision of the TH700-R4, but a 700 will bolt right in it's place. Thankfully (and finally) the regrettable TH200C-R4 was dropped in 1989, so you're safe. Fortunately, the '85 wagon I had was equipped with the 700, since it needed to do real work.
You can verify the type by the oil pan pattern:

If you're shopping for a replacement, get something newer than 1986. There were a couple enhancements made during the '86 model year, and '87 and up 700s were all 10-vane pumps, had the auxilliary valve body, and had the improved 30-spline input shaft. Don't cheap out, either. You need to replace the torque converter with the transmission.

Would the crossmember have to be different altogether, or could it just be moved? going from the 200-4r to the 700-r4, would the crossmember and driveshaft be the only issue, or would the torque converter and flywheel be an issue also?

Flywheel is not an issue - but the TC definitely is. You must use the torque converter for your transmission (if a 2004R then a TC for a 2004R, if a 27-spline 700R4 you can use the 27-spline or the 2004R TC, if a 30-spline you must use a 30-spline 700R4 TC).
BB - the 700R4 became the 4L60 in 1987 - not 1993. They have the aux valve body.

Strange, isn't it? In F-bodies it was still called "TH700-R4" through 1992. At least that's what's in the Helm's manual. Semantics - Go figure. You're right, though, since the ATSG manual calls it a "4l60" for whatever it's installed under.
No matter. At least he has the good transmission, either way.

My take is that the late-model GM nomenclature wasn't 'enforced' until around '92-'93. Back in '90, someone gave me a 'slightly used, 2-year old 3L80' transmission. Of course at the time I didn't know what that was, but was surprised when I went to go get it that it was a TH400!
