had a CEL on for about a week. truck running great, no issues. wasn't totally worried
this morning on the way to work, as i was passing a truck, it turned off. still runs the same-great.
never had the codes read. are they still stored in there? i've read they are stored for 30 start-ups?
would the gas cap being loose cause a CEL--i seem to only get them when my wife fills up.

The codes should still be stored.
And yes, a loose gas cap can cause a CEL in OBDII systems. It should be tightened at least 6 clicks to make sure it is tight (I think it says that in the owners manual).

that's good to know--
loose gas cap will trip a CEL and the codes are stored.
