2000 3.5 misfire

I don't get it... the car was running fine yesterday and then when I fired it up this morning it was totally gutless and the Service Engine Soon light was on. I took it to Autozone and had it scanned and it said multiple misfires and called out cylinders 1,3,5 injector malfunction. In my experience, I've never known injectors to just go out like that without warning, maybe one but not all 3 on that side. Is there a sensor or something that controls all three that could be bad. Any help would be great. Thanks

Sorry to hear you are having a problem. Misfires can be quite tricky to diagnose since there are a lot of variables to work with.

But lets try and simplify your life a little and break things down into categories.
Sensors and mechanical.

I am by no means an expert. But i had similar problems with my Intrigue and learned a lot in the process.

What i do know is that the computer tries control the combustion process via many of the sensors on modern cars. Starting with the intake air temp sensor, mass air-flow sensor, crank and cam sensors, and finally O2 sensors. If even one of them is not working properly you throw the whole system out of wack.

Next time you get the same gutless performance try this:
To temporarily eliminate sensor input unplug the MAF sensor ( it's attached to the big black hose between the intake and the air filter box ). The computer won't be able to read from it and use retarded and safe ignition and fuel-injection timings. You may run rich and use more gas, plus your check engine light will come on. I wouldn't do this for more than a couple of days since running rich may potentially damage your catalytic converter.

If the engine is no longer gutless, you most likely have a problem with one of your sensors.

If the gutless performance continues then most likely mechanical, i'd start by checking fuel pressure and injector cleanor. Have a MotorVac cleaning performed.

It does seem quite unlikely to have an entire bank of injectors go at once. But it could also then be likely that the ignition pack may not be working. I suspect a dealer could test this.

If you gave me the specific code, I could look it up in my factory service manual. I kind of doubt a sensor - you would probably get a specific code such as: so-and-so sensor is out of range, or voltage too low/high, etc.

Bad coil pack. Changed that and the fuse that the bad coil pack was blowing and it now run great. Thanks for the help
