I just received the replacement keyless entry remote that I purchased on Ebay, the seller that I bought it from said it would work with my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. I have tried programming my car to recognize the remote. It does the chimes and etc, yet when I hold down both the lock and unlock keys nothing else happens. I called the local Pontiac dealer and he said I have the wrong remote and told me the remote number I need. How do I know for sure that is the right remote? Grrrrr....

If you still have the original remote compare the FCC ID numbers located on the back of the fob because they should match. See example below:
Delphi 9364556-4575
FCC ID: L2C0007T
CANADA: 34321021779
The dealer may be correct.

I don't have the original keyless entry remote. It broke and then it was lost. I know, not a smart move.

If your remote does not match the numbers shown in post 2, you probably do not have the correct remote. If the vehicle responds, but the remote doesn't - the problem is the remote.

The remote number for 01-03 Grand Prix's is 10335582, and is different than 97-00 Grand Prix's (10246215 w/4-button, 10246216 w/3-button).

Well, I've tried emailing the seller and still no response. I believe I have sent them like 5 emails. So now I am stuck with a remote that isn't for my car! Grrr! I suppose that is what I get for not knowing precisely what I needed. At least now I am informed. Thanks for all the help!

Contact EBay and/or Paypal if you have it and start a dispute since the seller is not responding. Maybe that will get their attention. Regardless the seller needs to act in good faith customer service wise.
