I have purchased a used '05 Caravan. It has the keyless entry fob built into the key and I have two keys. The keyless entry system works on both keys, but one key is not programmed to bypass the security system. They both will lock and unlock the doors, but only one will start and run the vehicle. The other only lets the van run for a couple of seconds.
Is there a way to program the second key to start the van myself? or do I have to take it to the dealer.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Think you have to take it to the dealer and they have to program it . Don't know how much they will charge just to program it , if you have to buy one it like 80-90 dollars ..

it sounds like you might have a bad key.when it gets programmed, the remote and key part are both programmed at the same time.

You can program the key yourself for that model, the instructions are in the owner's manuel.

you can program the key yourself IF you have two good keys that are programmed. other than that you have to go to the dealer and they can program this key (if the built in transponder is ok). programming should only cost about 50-60 bucks.
good luck!!

The vehicle is still under warranty so why NOT take it to the Dealer? There should be no charge to "fix" the second key. If they do charge you, I would contact Chrysler regional hq and complain. BTW, I have a 05 T&C.
The info given earlier is correct that 2 correctly operating keys are required to program a third by the owner but a dealer can program it.

Thanks for all the response. This van came from Avis and I'm sure the key was added after the second was probably misplaced. I may get my local dealer to program it under warranty. It's worth a try.
