Just out of curiosity, How many of you have had rust problems on your 96-99 monte carlo under the gas door?

I have a 97 and live in Calgary,Ab...one of the most unpredictable and wild weather zones in the world. My Monte has taken an absolute s*it kickin from the weather and absolutley no rust. I really have to say that Chevy put good paint on the car, unlike the p.o.s. Neons that look like a piece of fruit peeling. That being said any car that has rust start, it never stops if it goes unchecked for too long. I'm guessing yours started long before it was obviously visible?

it is rusting from behind. I'm actually going to fix it in a week or two. I can tell it's been repaired before, a nice bondo job from the previous owner trying to save a buck. I'm going to totally strip that section of panel, and fill the rust holes with lead, then put a mild layer of bondo over it to fill the lows, then repaint. I'm HOPING that holds it off for a while. If it were done right the first time, I'm thinking I wouldn't have to do this right now. At least the previous body work finished with nice paint, I can't even tell where they blended it.
