hey guys, i got one question again about airbrushing with tamiya color X32 titanium silver.
I thinned it perfectly and sprayed it on the surface 3-4 layers, the result is quite good but the surface become a bit rough, like sand paper!!

Is it normal with this color??or I should get a very smooth surface??or is it due to my lousy airbrush??

Or is there anything to do with the time interval between each layer ??

Has anyone out there has similar results??

THANKS!!!!!!!!

As Always, Metallic paint need a clear coat over it.

Probably the pressure was so high that the pait partially dried in the air before hitting the surface. Notice the short drying time of Acrylics relative to the enmail colors. I had this problem with Tamiya X-11 when I was trying to get a fine spray by increasing air pressure. I learned since then to thin Tamiya colors a bit more and spray very light coats.

I've always had problems with Titantium Silver. From what I hear others do too. So either a lot of people have screwed this up, or the paint is kind of weird.

Is that the acrylic bottle paint? If available in your part of the world get the enamel version, much better stuff!

i get the same effect with metallics (even with car paints on initial coats). it's just that way, and you need clearcoat. :)

Yeah it only seems to be available in Asia and Australia for some strange reason. I hope Tamiya keep making and selling it here it for a long time as I prefer it to acrylics in most cases. Of course GSI Creos Mr Color lacquer is even better. :)

Sorry to bring this up, but I justed airbrushed the body in x32 and it really is like sandpaper! Will spraying a clear (Future) even it out?

Found an awesome alternative to X-32 the other day. GSI Creos (nee Gunze Sangyo) Mr Color Super Metallic SM05 Super Titanium. Beautiful, bright, slightly warm finish, fine grained and durable. Perfect for the interior of a Carrera GT. :)
