Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldnt find anything with the specific problem I'm having. I have a 1999 Dodge Durange with less then 48K on it and the other day while I was driving on the freeway the ABS and Brake light came on. I thought maybe I needed to change the front brakes. So I did, it didnt help. The lights have still not went off yet. The local dealer is telling me it is a wheel speed sensor and that it will cost $85 to just look at. How do I check the wheel speed sensor and if its not that what else could it be? Thanks for the help in advance!!!

I had the same problem with my 99 D a few years ago. At that time, my vehicle was still covered under warranty so I took it to my local dealer. They made the exact same diagnosis, replaced one of the rear wheel sensors and this took care of the problem. I haven't looked at the sensors myself to see how difficult they are to get to but I'm sure you can buy a new aftermarket part much cheaper and replace it yourself. Mine only has ABS on the rear so there's only (2) sensors to pick from. Unless they're a gagillion bucks, I'd replace one at a time and see if this takes care of the problem.

If you only have RWAL(Rear Wheel) ABS than check the wiring on the sensor that is mounted on the rear axle. These also do go bad and replacement is straight forward.

Same thing happened to me. It turned out to be the rear differential speed sensor. The dealer told me that this is a common problem. Part was cheap, and fairly easy to install. It goes in the top of the rear end.
