Door lock delay redux

I posted this question a while back and didn't get much feed back. I'm thinking that I can't possibly be the only person who has or has had this problem. I even purchased the GM shop manual for my car and I can find no trouble shooting process for it. All I can find is a description of what it is and how to turn it off and on. Nothing on how to find out why it doesn't work.
I have a 97 pa. As far as I can tell, everything else works perfectly. Here's the info:
I don't use the keyless entry fobs for day-to-day operation of the car. I have tried to use the fob to set up the lock delay as is described in the owner's manual. The fob will lock/unlock the doors, open the trunk and set off the panic alarm. The fob will not allow me to turn off/on the door lock delay (holding down the proper buttons in the proper sequence has no effect whatsoever on the door locks) as it is supposed to.
I use the DIC to turn on the delay for both drivers. All the steps are followed and the indication is that the delay is active. When I turn off the car, remove the key from the ignition, open the driver's door and press the door lock switch on the door, all the doors lock immediately. No three chimes to indicate the delay is active.
A GM service writer told me that the Body Contorl Module is probably the culprit. However, when I look in the shop manual under the door lock operation sequence, the door lock switch, Driver Door Module, and the Remote Features Actuator are all mentioned as components in the sequence, but not the BCM.
Has anyone had this problem and been able to solve it? I don't like just swapping parts until I happen on the one that is malfunctioning. Can be very expensive and not very intellectually rewarding.
Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks.
