What year did the LS1 become available in the TA? And are there any notable weakness in the cars?

LS1 became available in the F bodies in 1998. It was available in the corvette in 1997.

The block is obviously very stout. On nitrous they can run up to a 125 shot, without the need for larger injectors (Note the 98 models had larger injectors and I don't know if they can, in fact, run larger then a 125 shot). All the mustang guys hate the engine, cause it was Chevy's trick to underrate the horsepower of the cars severely. While most LT1's will dyno around 250whp, the LS1 will dyno between 280-310whp (Depends on the year).

The 2001-2002 models came with the LS6 (Corvette Z06) intake manifold. They churn out a little more ponies then the earlier years. The block can handle boost, despite what naysayers say, as I have a buddy that has been running 8-10 psi on his 99 Z28, which has over 100K miles on it, using an STS Turbo.

Weak points: Engine is hard to work on. There is little to no room in the engine bay. Suspension system sucks ass. The car's have too much body roll. This could, of course, be fixed. Still not alot of aftermarket support yet for the block. They also have a horrible 10 bolt rearend, which was taken from the S10 pickup. As a typical benchmark if you are making over 400whp you're most likely gonna blow out the rearend. The use of slicks on a stock car will also reduce the 10 bolt rearends life.

Strengths:
Most mustang guys don't wanna admit it, but just a cam alone can add 70whp on an LS1 powered F Body. I have a buddy with a baby cam (Aggressor 224 cam) running 404whp on a dynojet. He has the cam and full bolt ons. If he went bigger he could have well over that number. Oh, and the heads aren't as well flowing as people think. There's alot more power to be had from a set of better flowing heads.
