I'm going to work, and i'm in traffic, suddenly these ungodly bright lights nail my sideview...well I'm going "what the shit?" and look, I see the outline of...RICE!...so i'm all..."too bad I'm not alongside him" Well, next light we end up next to eachother, hes in some 90's CRX SI, blue with a rollcage, as much body mods as you can stuff on, gutted interior and a massive muffler. I stage it up and skitter infront of him so I'm not in a turn only lane, and to my suprise he follows, well, we end up at another light, hes revin up, so I lock my gears up. Green, were both off, hes hanging with me, to my suprise, and then I hear a blowoff as he shifts, just bairly hear it over his fartcan. Well, at 2500rpm on my tach, he shifts to second, at 3500 he shifts to third, at this point hes in my side view, at 5000 I shift, soon after he does too, well, hes in my rearview at this point, and were going 70, with him having no hope in hell of catching up to me....he follows me and keeps going for it at every light, I burn him 6 times in a row, the last he hung better, but for how much louder he was, and longer between shifts, he musta been redlinin it...well not suprising when just before a shift I hear a loud poping nose, a hiss, and he skitters to a quick turn to a side street. Just goes to show...if you cant win, dont bother destroying your car trying. :bandit:

Nice, its good to remind the imports that American muscle is still king.

hmm... have you heard a turbo car with a loud exh? not often... there were 5 turbo cars at the show i was at last nite, and they all have quiet exhausts. the same exh on an n/a car would be loud, however, a turbo car is considerably quieter, as the exh noise is semi cancelled out by the turbo. if he had a turbo, the bov would be quite noticeable.
for example, the audi r8 alms cars are big turbo cars, and are a whisper compared to the corvette or panoz which are both n/a. i know, i was at mid ohio last week.
also ... if it is a crx that is stripped witha cage... it prolly isn't slow... and if it is turbo, you would have to run under 13s to beat it... of course i don't know the guy or anything, but a crx that is turboed should easily push 13s, especially w/o an interior...
but hey, it's your story...

A few WRX's around here and 1 last generation rx7 are pretty loud, and they are all turbo'ed. But in most cases, turbo cars are a lot quieter than n/a cars. Is it necessary for the BOV to be loud?
I am assisting my friend piece together a turbo job for his LS integra. It's a 97, 5 spd, cat back exhaust, short shifter, 17inch wheels(doesnt help acceleration, i know). He plans to run around 6-7psi of boost, on stock internals, with an intercooler. What do you think his 1/4 time will be? It'd be nice to be able to beat a Type R with I/H/E mods.

Considering a Type R stock is 195HP, with I/H/E i'm estimating about 205-210 hp.Now, a LS integra runs wut, around 130HP.So with a turbo i'd say you'd get prolly around 180-200HP depending on the size of the turbo and setup.Stock boost on the turbo would be around 6-7 psi so you wouldn't have to worry bout ur boost for the time being.By adding a intercooler you would be able to raise ur boost level safely while not harming your turbo or motor. Now about your 1/4 mile time, i'd say in the ball park of mid-14's, but like i said it really depends on the size of the turbo and setup your friend is using.
And also about the CRX..........................I kno of CRX's that have interior and run 13sec. 1/4 miles with turbo setups. You sir, did not race a turbo'd CRX.You raced a CRX that was stripped of interior, roll cage added, body kit, and loud generic exhaust pipe.People that have the money to turbo their crx's don't bother with those loud cheap cans, they go for the best performance parts they can.Meaning the likes of HKS or Apexi.By buying those cheap loud cans, all they do is restrict air from leaving the car causing ur car not to run as good.Wut u heard was prolly a BOV, but the car wasn't turbo'd.I've seen ricers add BOV's to there cars by placing it right next to the throttle body on the intake piping for a decent release sound. They aren't as loud cuz there is not nearly enough pressure as if he was running a turbo, but the sound can be heard.Don't be bragging about beating a turbo'd import as if it was nothing, specialy if you don't even know if it was really a turbo'd car.
Oh, and if an import is running a turbo, it's not rice.Rice is when u dress ur car up and brag about how fast it is, but can't show shyt for times. When running a turbo on rice, it's no known as rice anymore, unless the driver can't shift or shyt.
Also, have you guys heard a new WRX with a BOV, i mean like a WRX really pushing hard, the BOV is heard over the motor easily. And with RX-7's ninja, the motor is heard more since it is a rotary, but who doesn't like the sound of a powerful rotary motor tearing up the asphalt.

You say turbos quiet exhaust sounds. Would that apply the same for a supercharger?

First, read the topic,
5.0 vs CRX Si. I said I heard a blowoff. If I knew it was turbo, I would say I raced a turbo'd Si CRX.
Second, it still is rice. The term came up from the air dam looking like it was made to scoop up rice to burn for fule. Turbo or not, if you body mod it with that exaust etc, its rice.
So dont go tryin to talk shit if you cant even read a damn post right. :bandit:

Devil: No, the superchrager doesn't make the car quieter.

superchargers use the force of the engine to turn a pulley which turns a turbine to pull in more air. The Turbos use the exaust to turn a turbine (which is why at certain rpm it adds boost, not all the time, it has to get enough gas to "spool up" and lock the turbine spining forcing air into the intake).

What in TAR-HOOTS are you talking about Boy?
A Rex with an apparent BOV and stripped interior with a Fart Can. Right there thats 5000hp.
Runs 3's down the Quarter Easily. Eats Top Fuel Funny cars for breakfast and disses ProStocks for lunch.
The best way to get power out of a gutless wonder such as a 4 cyclinder is one word, TURBO. Some people think NO2 is good, but if you're running a stock motor and squirt the juice you're asking for a whole heapin of trouble. Turbos are great, i want one for my Dog.. so it can run faster. And for my electric train set, so i can play faster.
Anywho, aint nothing like a Small Block in a Chevy cant take out.
Heck, Y'all remember the Dussenbergs back in the early days? Honda stole their technology. Them Dussies had Straight 8 DOHC Supercharged engines. And it didnt have body mods, nor was it powered by Stickers. It just weighed 8 tons, and were prone to breaking crankshafts but hey WHO ISNT?
Anywho thats my two dollars.

But seriously, i don't like how you're bashing honda's and shit. If a car can run 8 sec 1/4 times, then that's damn fast. Especially if it's a FWD. Knockin on the door to 7's too. I'm not dissing on domestics, because i definately like them too. I just like all cars. Except for ugly ones.

One thing that turns me off when a Civic pulls up to me is a super-load BOV. It reminds me of the public transportation system... you know when you're next to a bus and the hydraulic system lets out that loud whip sound. Pisses me off. I've actually turned down a race because the guy's BOV... If I wanted a loud whip noise in my ear I'd pull out my Winchester and BOHVP (blow off his vital parts).

Alot of rice I know of talk alot of shit how v8's are too heavy, and can never go fast. They say RWD cant ever have as much potential as FWD.
I like alot of rice, but alot of these civic boys and girls talk alot of shit with 17 second "fast" rides.

those guys are insane. front wheel drive will never be as good as rear wheel drives. the only thing front wheel drive has over rear wheel drive is that its initialy more stable in the rain and in the snow.

yea front wheel drive is better???? The only people that will say that are stupid people that buy hond civics and think that they will beable to make them go fast and HANDLE well. FWD is pathetic. but so are muscle cars. yea if you go to the track all the japanese ricer cars will eat your 5.0's dropings as they lap you for the second time.

Its one thing to drive your gutted out, roll-caged, uncomfortable, unreliable, UGLY ricer to the track in hopes of breaking 14's..... while its quite another to drive your smooth cruising, creature comforted, daily driver to the track and almost effortlessly pull a 13 sec. 1/4. By the way, I'm not picking on imports here, (just rice) but there is a definite difference between "rice" and say... a nice Supra or MR2 or something along those lines - the difference being that the Supras and what not are meant to be sports cars and are meant to be fast, mom's civic is not.

why are there integra type r's and mazda mp3s that outhandle bmw's in the SPEED touring car series? i don't care what your top speed is... explain to me how a poor handling fwd MP3 ran faster through a slalom course than a zo6 and a ferrari 360 modena?
car and driver had that one...
so fwd handles pretty bad eh?
just b/c you have driven crappy fwd cars... don't go pointin fingers cuz you can't afford a nice handling one

That's the point of trying to make a Civic go fast, it wasn't intended to go fast. People expect Supra's and 5.0's and what not to be fast. Plus the look on a guy's face when his v8 loses to a four banger is classic.

The look on 4bangers faces when my boat wastes them is pricless :bandit: They expect mustangs, cameros etc to beat them, but not some tub of a ford ;) Fear the blue oval rice boys and girls in your moms civics. See, a non moded 133cid civic, with bodymods *read weight* vs my 302cid slightly moded *with alot of weight* Well, They may not weigh as much as me, but I have way more then enough cubes to make up for it
135hp 128torque stock VTEC
200hp 270torque stock 5.0 (with automatic)
I kick on hp, and the torque defentally pulls more than my weight, numbers say it all ;)

I see your point Marc-0S, what you have described is what we call a "sleeper" I've always wanted to build a good sleeper car myself.... you do know what a "sleeper" is right?.....ok, now explain to me why these civic driving kids spend more on non-functional body parts than they do on more horsepower? I've seen civics with wings bigger than the whole rest of the car, looks like its going to fuckin fly away or something.

i'm looking into a second car for just plain fun, and the RX-7 is high on my list, those haul ass, ,with a 8 grand redline stock...15.5 sec for the 2nd gen non turbo, but that has alot ofpotential.

I personally like MY sleeper. No one expects a 4-door family sedan to be fast (unless the people are REALLY knowledgeable.) I like whooping civic ass when some punk thinks he is tough because he has an aftermarket muffler on his civic, it's priceless:D

to me it sounded like that guy was gonna run a nsx of the road, then you said a japanese family will cook the rice they found in the ditch, and the nsx is what is in the ditch so you called NSX rice in my eyes.

Don't forget the $92,000 car you so eloquently called "rice" could out-handle any car in it's pricerange. Horsepower isn't everything. Straightlines are boring, curves are where the fun is at.

i doubt the nsx outhandles half of its pricerange.
why would the absolute top of the line model (Alex Zanardi) only pull 0.93
nice but no where near exotic
what about a much better handling carrera c-4 (awd and only $74k) or a zo6 vette for only $50K
as car and driver says
"And when you can possess more potential for less money than an NSX, Acura's sexy supersport, for all its sophistication , rings up a tough sell."

the NSX is very much over-rated, and the re-sale value sucks worse than any other car I have ever seen. you lose like 30+ grand just driving it off the lot.

damnit when will you people realise that just cos a car has a high or low G rating does not mean it handles well. Handling is all about the charachteristics of the car when cornering on the limit and being able to hold it on the limit. lateral G is just flinging it into the corner until it breaks grip. The nsx DOES outhandle alot of cars for its price. It is the affordable supercar.
Z06's are very good but arent quite up there with the NSX, not far off, but not quite there yet.
And Banchi105. $70,000 for a Nissan Skyline aswell? hmmm, smells like rice too? i sure hope not. Leaves anything you can throw at it for that price dead round a circuit.

Well if it is such a great car - why cant acura get them off there lots - coming in as one of the worst selling supercars of all time barely able to sell 12 a month in the us?
Of course lateral g's doesnt tell everything about a car - but it tells you 75% of its road holding capabilities. The new Enzo holds 1.36 are you going to tell me its a bitch at cornering - no because even if the limit is blurry at 1.36 you will still know that you can safely push it to 1.25 which would far exceed the limits of any other car you may be racing
and if the skyline was as great as everyone wishes it would be
why does it never take more racing wins?

of course a huge margin of lateral G like the Enzo will mean it corners better over competition. it will also handle brilliantly. A good idea of the difference of road holding and handling is..........road holding is in play below the limit, handling comes into play over the limit. Its not necessarily directed at you Banchi105, but alot of people on here, when discussing handling, seem to think that just because Car A has a lateral G advantage of about 0.01G then it will naturally leave Car B for dead.
And as for Acura's sales figures, i am British, so ive never seen an Acura of any type, but the Honda NSX version over here does ok. as well as can be expected for something without the badge prestige of Ferrari et al.
And the Skyline has had plenty of wins in its life, its just not been doing so well this past year cos its getting out of date and the new one is on its way, along with the fact the new NSX is so damn fast. Remember in '99 when Erik Comas brought home the JGTC title in his Pennzoil Nismo GT-R?

ok :)
but just to bring up the point that makes me consider the nsx more rice - i liked it at first
but it looks exactly the same as it did 10 years ago at its introduction (no fixed headlights is not a redesign)
the car is old news and is not at all worth the msrp
i can pick up the paper and read about 10 nsx's going for $20k-$30k and them being only 2-3 years old. the car is due for a complete reassement and redesign - kinda like if ferrari was still cranking out the f40 or porsche was still on the 944
:)
i totally agree with you on the road holding points!

i do agree that its old, but it can still keep up with the competition. it is Japan's supercar, and it wont ever be as good as a Ferrari, but it is still good. this started by arguing over whether or not the NSX was rice. IMO rice is something that looks fast, but isnt. A car can have more spoilers and stickers than the entire cast of Fast n Furious, but if it goes like shit of a shovel then i dont class it as rice.

At my school, we have nine (count them) car guys. Period. The cars in question are: A '91 Geo Storm, two turbo 1st gen Eclipses, a SN-95 Mustang GT with SVT Suspension, three fox body Mustangs, a 1969 Chevelle SS396, and my 1970 Royale Blue MGB GT with factory orginal knock-off 52 spoke wire wheels (and rusted out passenger side door, BHM parts needed). We all hang out in the shop together and work on each other's cars because each one of us has something to offer. That Chevelle, guy rebuilt it on his own, but enlisted the Storm guy's help in putting in polyurethane bushings. In return, the Chevelle guy helped the Storm guy weld up his own strut tower braces. The Mustang guys all hang together very closely, but when one of the Eclipse guys said he was going to go to a drift gathering, the Mustang guys went with him to try it out. And all of the guys think I'm weird but cool for having an old British car and running it with them. In our group, as long as you're working on it yourself to make it accelerate harder, top out further, or hold the road better, you're one of us.
As for the pushrod V-8 versus DOHC inline four debate, how does both sound? Pontiac had a OHC Straight Six that was a great engine, or for that matter, how about the Offenhauser? And let us not forget that the BMW 507 was a dual four-barrel carbed OHV V-8, or that the Rover V-8, stand-by of English motoring for how long, was derived from a Buick engine. Cars are cars, and different engines do different things well. There's no way a SR20DET is going to make the torque of a Hemi, but show me a Hemi that redlines at 8000+ Two different engines that do two different things.
By the way, as far as front engine handling goes, can we dispute the handling of the original Mini Cooper or the Saab 99 Turbo?
