Hello, everybody. Does anybody have the secret decoder ring for the tranny types on the Focus? My daughter bought a 2003 Focus used with 25k miles. It now has 40k miles. The owners manual/scheduled maintenance guides are very vague about when/how to servcie the auto-tranny in this vehicle. For certain types of trannys, the fluid needs to be changed every 30k miles. For all other types of trannys, there is no indication that the fliud/filter EVER NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. That can't be correct, can it?

So I guess I really have two questions. The service manuals say that these types of trannys get serviced every 30k miles: AX4S, 4F50N, 4R100, 4F27E. Where do I find the tranny type for this car? On the bottom of the transmission is a sticker that has a bunch of numbers on it. One row starts with the sequence A4920. Could that possibly a tranny "type"?

Second question is, if this car doesn't have one of the tranmissions listed above, what is a reasonable service schedule for the type on this car?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Jim

You have a 4F27E...it's the only auto trans that Ford ever put in a Focus. MM.
