Why is it that 40-ish men tend to go out and buy corvettes when tey have their mid-life crisis... and think they are the baddest thing on the planet????

I was getting a sandwich at Sunoco... this guy who thinks his nuts a dragging on the ground is getting gas in a spanking new vette (don't care about them so I have no idea what "model" it is C5, etc), looking at his car (hoping everyone else will too) buffing a a speck of dust here and there, gets in starts it up and it sounds so lame I almost starting laughing out loud.

I finish getting gas, hop in and here him a the light next to the gas station reving the PISS out of the thing, trying to get some attention.

MAN if I was only driving Red Death today... not sure what the new vettes run, but at low 11's with a cylinder down and shot snychronizers... RD STILL would have ATE his queer little vette for lunch.

I'm inspired now... RD will be done by the end of April / early May.

(Oh and Rally... I'll get you lots of pics, maybe a vid or two as well... PM me your email address.)

sorry, but i'd like to have my mid-life crisis so i can get my 505 HP Z06 or mid 80's 'vette. Not as much as i'd like a 68-69 camaro though.....but alot of guys who have vette's think they have "SUPER-NUTS"

A normal vette, no, a Z06, whether it be C6 or C5, yes I want one so bad. But by the time I'm 40, there's gonna be 20 more corvettes to choose from.

Babs, Not yet... taking a few days off work to cut her up right after tax season. A week to get the parts in, and a week to put her back together.

Toying with going all braided lines while I'm at it, not sure yet though.

The trans I'm doing myself, the engine... got a frined who's an old school guy that's insisting the whole engine pull, fixing and re-install will only take one weekend... unless we have to send the heads out.

ya i don't know about those vettes, for the price of a vette i could think of alot of better cars to get. plus, i would feel really stupid going to the strip w/ a new vette and running 11's right off the bat, i mean part of the fun is working on it yourself. but props to those who can do it i guess.

i have driven the new c6 and an older zo6 (we have them as shop cars) and they are both moded and let me tell u how i would never want to own one....ever. the ride is what u pay for and all the oh la la's like the heads up display and tire pressure moniters and shit like that. i would rather have a viper or a lambo lol.... but for the price i dont think u will find a better "performance" vehicle, but personaly i would rather have a damn boat, and a new camaro. vets are ok, but they are not bad ass like our f bodies, i think they sound weak and they dont look muscle carish at all!

I dont care what everyone says, but If I saw a 20 yr old driving a Z06 like it should be driven, Id crap my pants, (realizing itll never happen, but cautious so I take my pants off.)

20 year old??? I've heard of post whoring, but c'mon bag... what does a 20 year old have to do with mid-life crisis and a z06, except for maybe being the guy at the car wash drying one off?

And besides, a 20 year old driving one like it's intended to be driven better be at a track...:nono: You'd better crap your pants.... how in the hell is a 20 year going to gain the necessary experience in 4 years to drive a Z06 like it's supposed to be driven??? :frown: (Unless he takes MUCH schooling) Put it this way, I wouldn't be in that car with him :grinno: ... neither would my daughter.:grinno: :grinno: :grinno: In fact, if I caught his ass doing that with any of my kids in there I'd probably beat him to a pulp.:iceslolan

2-bit post-whoring there bag... that's down there in the basement with Rally.:iceslolan  :cwm27:

WAIT a minute! My bad... you were talking about Jcrane???

Uhhh, yeah. I'd crap my pants too if an 18 year old walked up to a Z06 hopped in and drove it like he meant it too. But my first question would be... "Does your old man know you're out in his car?"

Jcrane88

I'd like one but i know i dont have the expertise to drive one like a race car...especially without the traction control ...i'd be happy if i could do a big burnout and take down the 1/4......after that i'd have more fun in my camaro

Yea but around where I live, there are 20 yr olds with raised F350's worth around 40,000, and amg mercedes. Its sometimes amazing what youll see in Cali. If they can afford these, they can certainly afford a used Z06.

ZL1power69

the new zo6 can outrun cars that cost twice as much; the lambo galardio (probably spelled it wrong) is one example. i would not mind having one at all, but i think it has become more of a sports car than a muscle car. Maybe by the time i hit my mid-life crisis, yenko camaros will be affordable  .

yea same here. my college lot is a blend of lifted trucks, imports, and hi end cars like m3's,etc. then there are us "lesser life forms" that drive normal cars. there is some girl that got a new C6 Corvette for graduating high school (surprizingly she has not wrecked it yet).

To me Vette's will always be a super car. If the guy was smiling ear to ear it probably wasn't cause he had super nuts or some shit. It was probably cause there so much friggin fun to drive.

yea no one (atleast me anyway) is saying they are not awsome cars. i just think vettes of the 60's were more like muscle cars. Newer vettes are more like sports cars (although 400-500 hp is muscular). an old guy with a mid-life crisis could easily buy say an f body and use the leftover cash for mods and it would probably kill most vettes but a corvette is a status symbol.

Eh Vettes are nice, even if you get beat in one, compared to an Fbody (except for 1st gens along with those rare model ones) you wont turn as many heads as you would in a Vette..

Id be doing a lot of nut draggin if I was driving a new vette....

aside from that most of you people would be happy with just about any sort of big power v8 camaro or other v8 car that can go insanely fast. The corvette is just different. Its a true sports car. Its tuned for driving in all aspects not just a straight shot all out acceloration. There is absolutely no comparison. Can you make a camaro handle and all yeah of course but if what your looking for is a prepackaged street car that will out handle and out power just about anything else that you normally see on the streets out of the box then the corvette is what you are looking for. If you want something that your going to build up thats gonna get you going in one direction so fast it scares you get a camaro. And if your rich well....get both and do whatever you want i guess...

Jim i really can't believe you really had to ask the question. After having to scrap my first Camaro due to "familyhood" and drive around in crackerbox grocery getters that have less torque then a fucking record player, you'd better damn well believe when my 'sentence" is up I will driving whatever the hell I want.

Thank god my wife hates mini-vans so I didn't have to go that route. Oh, and that reminds me, it ain't just the guys, this summer she's getting her T-bird while I'm stuck with a rusted wreck formerly called a Z28 that she pummeled into the ground:( So how the hell does that work :dunno:

DYLAN!

LMAO ... record player... I hear ya brother. Oh and my wife hated minivans until she realized that you could fit a mini shitter in he back for the kids. THAT my friend, is a convenience that is almost worth the price of the vehicle itself.

But get this... NOW she wants a 78 T/A. She gave me a raft of shit the other night... "YOU GOT A TOTALLY COOL CAMARO THAT I CAN'T DRIVE & I GOT A MINIVAN... MY SISTER CAN DRIVE HER HUSBANDS MUSTANG..." She forgets the 2 years I drove around in a 87 Ford F150 with a bitchy little 6 cylinder, NO OPTIONS, that was literally falling apart, or the 86 Ford Bronco that wasn't much better.

So now I'm looking out for a black on black, automatic 78 T/A with the hood chicken. OR an early 90's 300ZX. :banghead: "Nothing too radical... just cool."

Correction: Kids are the ultimate source of regret... "why in the HELL did I buy THAT! I should have KNOW the little jerks were going to trash it..." Example... couch that now has markers, sodas, food, barf, drool, and god-knows what else smashed into it.

Ultimate Birth Control = Vasectomy. Snipped, cleared for take-off, and ready to roam! (JUST JOKING HONEY!)

(Silly women think that a vasectomy is great for them, no pain all gain. I guess they never consider that now their man can't knock anyone else up... he's sort of compensated for his troubles.:evillol: )
