Too late - about 4 repairs later I found the trouble shooter kit from the autoparts house while GM still sells you that piece of crap poor design intake manifold gasket.

Actually, the regular intake manifold gasket is plastic and rubber. It usually fails because the plastic deteriorates. Or the rubber is eaten away. When this happens, it allows water (antifreeze) to seep down to the place where the intake manifold meets the block. However, there is a Blacj RTV that comes in this kit where you would put the red or blue where these two parts meet. The black is more tolerant. Anyway, this new gasket is metal, rubber and plastic. It is metal where it counts.

Thanks for the article link, gaspig. Take these gasket leaks seriously. I own a 2002 Grand Prix with a 3.8L engine. I've never had a coolant leak. However, my low coolant light came on and went off twice on last Thursday, I took it to a GM dealer on Friday, they replaced the lower intake gasket and said everything was fine, got it back Monday, and the engine died that night. Coolant had already gotten into the oil and damaged the engine - metal fragments found in the oil. Now I'm waiting to see if my extended warranty will pay for it. So make sure you check it out!
