Where is the engine plate on a possibly factory engine from a 89 dx. I want to get the details.

I just picked up an 89 DX that had a problem with the rear control arm, but it has a 16valve DOHC engine and 5 speed trans that runs great. Best of all, I got the title and the keys for FREE! (Did I get a good deal?) All I had to do was drive about 80 miles to pick it up on a trailer and already fixed the control arm so it is driveable now.

DX had the D15B2, and I have the exact same car as you so I am positive.

On other Hondas it seems to be right on the front of the block, but I've never actually seen it on mine.

It has a little body rust.. I am tempted to bondo the body rust and sell the car.. (of course I will take the 5speed trans and the 60k engine out and put my 4spd and 130k engine in first...)

Maybe I will be looking for some replacement interior parts from an 89 soon.. Maybe exterior too.. Everyone let me know if you have some parts you pulled from your 89s that you have extra.

yeah the engine code is on the front of the block near the tranny. ok you said a possible factory engine but the dx didnt come with a dohc engine so it must not be stock

You probably have a ZC then, I doubt someone would give away a B16A Civic.

He said it was a really fast civic.. It also has a performance clutch on it with only about 1000 miles on it.

thats an awesome deal to get a ZC powered(at least) car for free, i would drive cross country for a deal like that, the guy who sold it musta been on crack to just give it up.

I sent my minions to go dig around with a flashlight till he found the engine stamp... To my suprise, it was stamped B16A!

I now have title and keys in hand. Also found out that it has brand new tires (still have the little nipples on them) and a nice shiny stainless exhaust system.

It also has a bright red shifter bushing and a shiny type-r Short shifter in it (was hidden by the shift boot).

I talked to the guys brother and he said that they smoked a mustang in it once...

You son of a bitch. You got a free (sort of) Si-R. It's probably stolen or something though or hot parts at least.

If its stolen, then how would I have the title for it?

Engine could be stolen. Cuz why else would someone give something away that costs like $3000.

combined that cars probably worth over 5 grand, so I would be a little weary...Just for safe measure get a check on the vin through carfax or a car registry to make sure...It really is something too good to be true.

He didnt even know what it had in it.. He has always been one of those guys that gets awesome stuff without realizing it..

He just got a Talon from some old lady that had turbos and all kinds of shit that just wasnt connected.. She had no idea and gave it to him dirt cheap.

I am going down there today so I will get the vin from the engine and run it through the normal spots.

If you find the engine is stolen I would find out where any ID numbers are on it and scrape that shit off so it's undetectable. I mean you didn't steal it so it's not your problem and it's already gone so it's not like the other guy could expect to get it back. So just scrape that shit off the block and where ever else.

Its been sitting at an impound lot for 3.5 months.. I would think that abandoned cars probably get entered into some type of database for tracking.. If it wasn't siezed for evidence by now, its not goin anywhere...

4thgen hatch, you cant just go around filing off numbers and shit, every piece of an engine has the vin stamped or etched into it, sometimes on the inside of a piece so you cant see it.

id have to agree that this car is "hot" off the streets, no way they would just give it up.

Carfax said there is nothing out of the ordinary with the engine...
