headers bolts...dammit! more space?

hey... i need to know if you can remove that air conditioning equipment that is to the left of the engine. I'm sure that can be removed because people remove their a/c all the time. but i want to know what all I would have to do. do i need to access anything from the interoir?

my real problem is getting to this last bolt of my header. i'm having to replace the header gasket for the third time because apparently i never tighten that bolt enought because it is extremely difficult to get to, and the gasket burns and blows out. on top of that the noise created from that exhaust leak is very annoying. (see pic) as you can see, there is little room to rotate that wrench on that last bolt. not enough room for ratchet wrench with angle adapter.

I just want to be able to get to this bolt so that I can get some leverage on it. I already have angle adapters for my socket wrenches, a flexible adapter, a small wrench and none of these things have been helpful.

Any other tools that could work better? Other suggestions?

last header bolt removal tool, cant believe you have never heard of it. But the a/c is east to get rid of, the only prob is draining the system. It is illegal to release freon into te air but ppl do it anyway. Did you put the compressor back on your new engine?

never heard of that tool, what does it look like? no, I didn't put the compressor back on. i drained it the illegal way. i wasn't going to but my mechanic friend started doing it for me and I was in a rush so I said, what the hell. i'm sure i lost a few thousand brain cells from that one.

if this tools gets the job done for me, i'll just leave it on there because I think i'll be redoing the a/c this summer. but just fyi, do i need to get into the passenger compartment to remove the stuff that is in the way (not necessarily the entire system)?

to remove the heater box you'll need to access some bolts from inside, everything else you won't tho.

i had the same problem, i used allen type bolts instead, solved my problem

well if your not going to have a/c in the car anyway then yeah. take all that stuff out. There are some things that you have to get to from the inside but I dont know if you have to remove the dash or anything. but right under the passenger side dash kinda tucked under there.

yea, the a/c heaterbox is held in place by some bolts that go in from the inside, all you hafta do it remove the lower hush panel.

oh what a cruel joke! I didn't catch onto that one at all. I actually went to the auto parts store and asked for it..lol. Grrr!. But I needed some JB weld too, so it's cool.

It's okay because I got it off anyway...just like before, the hard way. And I'll just leave the a/c equipment. I'm sure I'll buy another compressor this summer and pay an arm and leg to have a shop redo it.

if you put a/c back on its easy. Just buy a r13-a recharge kit and your set. Just remember to oil the compressor.

to do it right you have to evacuate the system first and make sure that the lines are clean. If he has had everything sealed up the whole time he hasnt been using the a/c he might be able to get away with it though.
