I am debating if I should buy a starion FMIC that is in great shape, and is 70 bucks shipped, It's for my 1G turbo, But it isn't as big as I want it to be, I will only be running the evoIII, that;s the last upgrade for the turbo. Or this one that I found on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FMIC-FRONT-MOUNT-INTERCOOLER-28X7X2-5-CIVIC-INTEGRA-RX7_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33741QQitemZ8054428 974QQrdZ1

The inlet and outlet is only 2 inch, i would look for bigger. The one i got was 2 3/4 inlet outlet

That looks like a good core, I would see if they could build one for you with bigger inlets/outlets. I would stay away from the starion one at that price.;)

mine is 24.5x12x3 with 3" in and out and I think it was ~$100 shipped

Yah, I only want like 2.5, not really going for power, just fast enough.

hight and thickness= better cooling. Length=more pressure drop. So basically short and thick will cool better than long and thin.

well if that's the case, why don't they make a tall front mount that is 6 inches thick?

That makes no sense no offense. If the volume is the same why would it have more/less pressure drop? I think a taller longer, thinner one would be better cause it has more surface area, therefore more cooling efficiency. Don't buy from that guy on ebay he's got some pretty crappy feedback, mostly slow shipping so i say eep looking for a similar on egay.

Its not about size, its about its ability to remove heat from the charge air. No possible way to get that info from pics or dimensions. But yes, ICs with similar dimensions have supported 600 hp. I like to go as thick as possible, about 3.5", since adding thickness reduces pressure drop.
I know he had(kevin) had a write up on this but I couldnt find it. This is what I found though.

24x12x4 with 3 inch inlet and outlet and a ton of 3 inch piping for 160 bucks... Thats the kinda deal you need to find.
Don't go with the Starion one, you won't be as happy with it as you would be a full huge front mount.

2.5" piping would be better with an evoIII

Oh yeah, no doubt. I'm not gonna be running an evoiii in my car though.

also going to have to disagree. In fact air doesn't even reach that far into the fmic, more surface area is better for more heat exchange. The longer the fmic is the more time it has to cool, although most don't even need that, for instance my intercooler is cool to the touch about 1/3 of the way through.

Doesnt that just prove my point?

So then we are talking about this kinda FMIC for my E3B16G turbo,
24-28x6-8x2.5 inlet out let and 2-2.5 wide? I don't want something to tall, sometines I think that looks a little gay on 1G's to have a 12inch tall front mounts. thanks everyone, let me know

I would say then have a core size of 24x8-10x3-3.5 with 2.5 of 3 inch outlets

nope......the big turbos that flow much more than 550cm need the extra length to cool down
